Chapter 1 - The Beginning

One day as I am sitting at home with my twin girls who are 1 and my oldest daughter who is 6, I was trying to figure out "how can I earn some extra cash"? I am not quite ready to put my twin girls in daycare, so I soon began to do some research on what can I do from home. I soon discovered just how many scams are out there! During my research however, I stumbled upon an article about blogging.  I must live under a rock because I had no idea how big blogging really was!

First, I went to Blogger.com and looked through the steps of setting up a blog. I have to say overall it was pretty easy to set up. The next thing, I went to the book store and purchased the book Starting Your Own Blogging Business. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of how to get started and what the next steps should be.  I found this book to be amazingly helpful and very easy to understand.  It covered things like how to register my domain, deciding on a platform, how to put together a growth plan, and how to start generating revenue, etc. I still use it today as a reference guide.

Being a blog virgin that I am, I thought it was going to be easy.   I thought, I will build up my following and make money, does not have to be a lot money. Anything extra will be great!  Well 3 months later, still building my following and I discovered how difficult and time consuming it really is. What I did not realize was how much I would love it! It is definitely not a get rich quick sort of thing, but I can definitely see it's potential!

So although the potential to make money is definitely a strong driver to blogging, another influential factor for me is being able to help other stay at home moms (or Dads) just like me. Being able to share my experiences and things that I learn with others. From blogging, saving money, DIYs. and parenting experiences/tips.  So find something you are passionate about because you will be spending a lot of time writing about it!

As I progress, I will continue to share my experience with you. If you would like to share yours, I would love to hear your comments/tips!

Patty

I agree that it takes a lot to learn how to get followers etc. I feel like a lot of my personal blog followers come from getting out there and visiting others' blogs. Look forward to reading the other stories / updates from you.

Welcome to Hubpages (although I think I am a little late on that one since you have been here for a couple months.) You sound like you have a great writing voice. Good luck on your blog and your newfound addiction! ;)
