Top Niche Markets For Online Business

Niche markets are them superb two words for an area online that you can do a business with, if you only knew how to, but the process of using a niche market to centre yourself as the dominant online presence is a daunting one at that, because of the competition online today.

There are however ten top niches that you could consider going into and there are almost infinite sub niches within these top general niches to build and maintain an online business.

And here we go through the top niche markets to explore:

Make Money or Save Money

Lots of people want to either make money or save money, so they look to the Internet as a way of providing the solutions to their financial problems, making money comes in all shapes and forms online, including work from home opportunities of which there are many legitimate ones and scams all mixed in.

Saving money in this day and age is important to most of us as prices rise and fall, the economic state of the worlds economy is unstable and so we strive to cut back on things we can either do without or we fail to recognize what we need to do, so we turn to others for help, usually with a $9.95 ebook or report that promises to provide the timely information that we need.

The money niche market comes in lots of financial categories, like

  • Debt
  • Insurance
  • Credit cards
  • Loans
  • And many more

So if possible try to specialize in one of these areas or search for a low competitive niche in between the ones above for maximum results.

Self Development

This is an area that there are countless self help gurus out there who simply provide information on reaching your life's potential and they provide all sorts of information and guidance in all areas of daily living, which could include money, career, health, relationships and anything else that is important to us to better ourselves.

Self development is an area that requires motivation and the ability to motivate others through whatever skills you have, whether that's written skills or the power of speech, articles and pod casts are the usual self help products that these gurus sell and they also have live seminars too which people go crazy for.

Steve Pavlina is a self help development speaker and author, so if there is anything to learn about this area then it's at his blog Steve

This is an area that you might think how do people earn? Well there are many ways for one Horoscopes, these are one of the most popular and abused forms of spiritual destiny that is entwined with the alignment of the planets and birth dates and there are countless horoscopes all saying pretty much the same thing that's as far as I can tell by reading them anyway.

Another way of this spiritual niche making money is by psychic readings and one to one consultations, people want or need to feel a connection with a deceased loved one just to see if they are ok, only a good idea if you really are psychic to provide this type of service, but there is a demand for it nonetheless.

Of course there are other forms of the supernatural to make money and these could be digital ebooks about Tarot card reading and palm reading and other popular subjects about hunting ghosts, people are just fascinated with the paranormal and they want to find out more.

Information Technology (IT)

The digital age came after the information age and the IT technology that still exists today is something people still need to learn about as it is still relevant now more than ever. Information technology especially to do with computers is something of a popular business and there are manhy facets of this niche that are in demand to be explored.

People want to learn how to do things simpler, they want exact information about how to do something, like how to do spreadsheets, advanced Excel, microsoft word basics, you name it they want to learn with a simple to download ebook from someone who has been there and learned the know how, so you don't have to.

Information technology goes further than simple ebooks and online website information, it reaches through other online mediums such as podcasts, videos, webinars, offline seminars and public speaking. Information technology can be vast and advanced so products and services are created to cater for those who need it.

Online shopping has become huge, in fact billions of online sales are reached each year and the potential to earn through shopping sites as a website owner and affiliate combined are massive if you are prepared to put in the work.

Amazon and ebay being the top two that spring to mind and plus they have their own affiliate programs integrated into the accounts when you sign in, but there are other shopping sites with the potential to earn through affiliate programs as well as drop shipping programs which allow you to store none of the items as that is all stored elsewhere in a warehouse and whoever makes an order then you buy the product with the money that you receive from that odrer and you keep the difference between the wholesale price and the mark up price you set.

Dropshipping is something that you could look into if you are interested, but beware of the scams like any other work from home business online.

Health And Fitness

If you've been online for quite awhile, you will have noticed ads for health drinks and other health foods, in fact this is a thriving business online and offline, so if you have an interest in the health and fitness industry, then try and start small with a few health drinks and other stuff and build up to a full website, because it is quite competitive trying to promote this type of stuff.

Just think of the demand of certain niches, if there is a huge demand for the products and services then it is a viable business, so people want to get fit and they want to get healthy too and there will be stopping in this niche because that will always be a certainty of people wanting to improve their overall fitness.

The dating and relationships industry is also a good one too, particularly as an affiliate of the larger dating sites which members have to pay a fee to retain their membership status each and every month, whether people feel isolated or alone they feel that they need to visit dating sites as a way to combat this affliction.

Other examples of ebooks and reports to write in this niche are: How to meet the women of your dreams, tips on going speed dating, top places to date, it's all about that surpirise statement "giving people what they want" find what's being searched upon and creating something targeted to those people searching for it.

Life Problems And Solutions

Anything you can think of in life that is a problem you can bet that there is a solution to that problem and that's the key to think bout, trying to find multiple problems and creating the solutions for them is something anyone can do.

This niche anything in life could apply, like how to deal with traffic wardens maybe you have some expert ways to deal with these evil people, or maybe you know the exact methods to clean windows with natural household ingredients, people want to know this stuff and they will pay for it.

Food Recipes And Cooking

Food recipes are very popular as are cooking tips and information about foods from all over the world, this niche requires a love of food and an interest in cooking too, plus take into account that people could want to eat healthy so you could provide cooking tips from this market view or any other you can think of.

Recipes and cuisine from Indian, Chinese, Italian,Thai,English and any other country are highly sought after, but also this is a saturated market so a little inventiveness could work or a completely new angle to promote this niche market is needed.

Hobbies And Crafts

Specialist hobbies and crafts that people want to know more about include drawing and painting, sewing, stamp collecting and any other hobbies you can think of.

Again people want to know or find out more about how to do certain crafts and hobbies that they look online more than anywhere else. There is money to be made with drawing for example as you can draw to earn money in a variety of different ways.

So when looking for a niche try and look in between the lines of the 10 niche markets above and try to fit it in with your own hobbies and interests so that you can excel your business that little bit quicker by eliminating the time needed for extra topic research.

Those are great topics to start with but if you really want to make money quickly you'll need to look towards more long-tail niches as the other "top-level" ones are already heavily saturated.

I am sick of businesses like Domino's and Eagle Boys Pizza here in Australia exploiting our NICHE gluten free MARKET. They promote products as gluten free yet they cannot guarantee their products won't contain traces of gluten. In Australia it is ILLEGAL to label something as GLUTEN FREE if it isn't! SIMPLE.

Thanks for starting a great discussion!

Rated up. An ideal starting point for niche markets. I have found that the financial markets also have tremendous numbers and go hot and cold with the stock exchange. You can stumble onto some traffic generators by looking for companies that are near listing.

Amazon and Clickbank work better when you do review style articles and blog posts and draw your readers in from keywords that suggest that they are searching to buy the promoted products.

Try different formats of reviews and test what's all about being busy busy!

Good niche advice here. You are so right about choosing a niche you know about and enjoy. Especially a blog that needs to be updated every other day. I have blogs on Blogger and Wordpress, plus Squidoo that are beginning to make a few adsense pennies, but no Amazon or Clickbank income yet. I'm doing something wrong, not sure what.

      Hey -

Just came across your post -- you've got great information for anyone starting out.

I coach people who are just getting started and I advise them to look for a niche in which they either have some knowledge, or some passion.

If you get into a niche you know nothing about, or don't even particularly like -- you will be in big trouble down the road, because we all know you've got to do a lot of communicating about your product to be successful -- articles, blogs, forums, PPC (if you have money! -- lucky you). So you better be interested in you niche.

I'm gonna follow you and check out your other stuff. Good job man.

I guess the same applies, find your niche and then look for some Mlm's to start to promote and build your business around, that's what I'd do, those sites and promotions that pay on a recurring basis are the best options there is.

      Cheers there Mike!

I too have only really tackled the stuff I know a lot about, researching takes up too much time, but I will research a topic if I have to and I will be researching a lot this year as I will have a few ebooks in the works and there is some research needed to brush up on some old art techniques which I've forgotten since my art school days.

Also I don't think I could ever bring myself to post some asian unsexy aunties or whatever they're called as stand alone hubpages, I mean what could I write about against the pictures??!

This year I'll be concentrating more on my videos so that they sit well in my hubpage drawing tutorials and expanding on my existing tutorials with different angles of subjects and other stuff to try and bulk them up a bit!!

Wow, the last comments were 2 months ago--I guess I'm late!

The niche market is an interesting topic, and of course I have some of my own--art, basketball, unexplained occurances, etc. I'm still working through what works well for me and what is a dud. A sports niche is seasonal, but it's great when it's going....

It is a constant struggle to find the niche and keep it aligned with things I enjoy writing about (or things I possess some knowledge of....). I haven't found it in me yet to research a topic I find dull just for the sake of a high HubPages score, and I haven't tried the "Girls of the Middle East" racy pictures angle yet, either. For now, I just plug along, primarily writing about things that interest me most, and I am guessing the right niche will someday, somehow, become more apparent.

Thanks Wayne, your Hub was good as always, and your information helpful.

It is definitely worth focusing on one niche at first and getting stuck in and then you'll find there is a growth in your area of affiliate promotions and before you know it there will be another web business on the horizon. Because that's the way it works online, never ever stop writing, building new web pages etc, because others will surely take over you if you stop.
