What is Articulate Storyline?

If you have ever been asked by your boss to create any kind of presentation or training material for other employees then you would appreciate how difficult it can be, unless you happen to be a trained person responsible for developing training material. This is where the Articulate Storyline product can help. There is a trend in the market now to develop training material in the form of eLearning, thus allowing greater number of people to access the content.

Creating any kind of training material sufficiently detailed to provide the necessary information to the trainee in an appropriate timeframe is difficult, especially more so when it comes to elearning. Good news is that there are Authoring tools for elearning available which can make life easier for people tasked with developing training content or simply putting together a presentation.

What is eLearning?

E-learning basically comprises all forms of electronically supported learning and teaching. E-learning enables you to learn anytime and from anywhere.

E-learning can be online, CD-ROM-based, Network-based, Intranet-based. It can be a very rich learning experience that can even improve on the level of training you might experience in a crowded classroom. It's self-paced and hands-on learning.

How to make an elearning program?

Now that you know what elearning is, you’re probably wondering how you can create training material easily and quickly. This is where Articulate elearning software known as Storyline tops the charts when it comes to delivering ease of use and good functionality.

Eliminate all the time, complexity and cost of creating professional-quality presentations and e-learning courses. Articulate Storyline lets nontechnical users create elearning courses by adding narration and interactivity. With the click of a mouse, your presentation is transformed into a compelling training course.

What is Articulate?

Articulate is a well-known software product geared towards the eLearning industry. It has a number of product offerings either packaged in the form of Articulate Studio suite, which includes Articulate Presenter, Articulate Engage, and Articulate Quizmaker or you can get the products as individual items. With the Articulate Studio suite, eLearning creators can author courses in PowerPoint. Many find Articulate’s products easier to use than many of the other tools, but as is true of all software products that are easy to use, the Articulate Studio suite lacks some advanced features necessary for more robust learner experiences.

To overcome the lack of advanced features in Studio, Articulate started from scratch and created a new product called Storyline to offer along with its other tools. Articulate Storyline has generated a great deal of eagerness and excitement among potential eLearning developers.

Storyline’s main user interface is very similar to those of other tools, including the Articulate Studio products, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe Captivate.

Articulate Storyline: introducing Stories, Scenes and Slides

What features Storyline provides?

Articulate Storyline contains many types of template slides that you can use to create your elearning training material. You can download more templates free from a link inside Storyline.

Storyline has taken care to include many types of quiz questions as well. Offering many different categories and types. You can place questions in banks from which you can subsequently draw randomly or sequentially.

It’s worth mentioning here that Storyline allows slide layers. Slide layers are a new way of building multiple interactions on a single slide very good for those occasions when you develop training material that includes simulations. Slide layers let you quickly and easily overlay objects, and trigger layers to appear when learners take certain actions. The good thing is that you don’t have to duplicate and manage multiple slides.

In Storyline much of the power comes in the form of triggers. You can assign a trigger to occur based on any of a number of factors. For example triggers that connect to an object, such as the user clicking or dragging the object, it’s important to realize that the power of Storyline extends itself to any object on the screen. In other words, you can have a trigger occur when the user interacts with a button, with an image, a video, a text box, or anything else. The cool thing is that it easy to setup triggers unlike some of the more complex authoring tools for elearning.

Rather than reiterate what you can read on the Articulate website to find out more information here’s the link – http://www.articulate.com/

In my conclusion I can say in all honesty it is worth getting your hands on this product if you are ever involved in creating presentations or elearning training material. The interface, tools and features in Storyline, while powerful, are relatively easy and fun to use – if you know how to use Microsoft PowerPoint then you’ll feel at home with this authoring tool.
