What's the advantage of a fixed width website over a fluid width?
Some people like their website to go the full width of the browser, but I'm not so sure...
From a readability standpoint, I believe fixed width works better since we learn to read in fixed columns. If they are too narrow or too wide, the content is difficult to read.
Fluid width sites make sense if the site is providing Software as a Service. For example, the spreadsheets in Google Docs expands to the maximum size of the browser. This gives you more columns to work with.
Yet, Google (word) Documents are fixed width and doesn't expand or scale to the browser width. Again, this most likely behaves as expected when reading or writing documentation.
In my hub i have tried to concisely address this subject of liquid vs fixed width which you can review for your general understanding..

I have been posting comments in the forums, and for some reason, when I try to reply to a post, it jumps to another window, or will not allow me to reply to another hubber's comment. I also tried to edit a post, and it did the same thing. When I finished the edit, I received a red message saying...
