What types of businesses can be started for under $500? Any Ideas?
That would take some creativity on your part to tailor it to your own skills, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of options of businesses that can be started for very little money. For instance, I started a housecleaning business, an aquarium cleaning business, an online bead shop, and a motel gift shop all on less than $100 each. The trick that I've found is to use all of the resources that are available to you, and never take a penny out of the business until it is making an easily sustainable goal amount. For my gift shop I started with $11 for some glow-in-the-dark silly putty that I placed on the front desk in the motel my mom managed and sold it to people with kids that were bored from excessive traveling. From there I added lighters, then calling cards, then finally an assortment of novelty items and a display case, then two cases...it took me six months to build up to that point, but I never put more than that original $11 in out of my own pocket. The bead shop started in much the same way, but started with $50 and sales through a message board, then Etsy, then eBay. For the cleaning businesses, I used word-of-mouth and actively contacted area businesses for marketing that only took time, but no money, and that quickly took off as well.
