"1984" by George Orwell. That book completely changed how I viewed government.
"Slaugher-House Five" by Kurt Vonnegut. Fantastic book! It changed how I viewed Time.
"To kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. Loved. Loved, this book. I never thought much about true bravery, but this book changed how I viewed bravery, racism, and justice.

I take it you're excluding all the moral codes of the world's religions.
1984, for the way way Orwell, analysis the way restrictions apply to different aspects of society, probably influenced by his old tutor, Huxley.

"Man's Search for Meaning", by Viktor E. Frankl.  Basically says we have little to no control over what others do.  We have control over what we do in response and we should focus on what we can control.

"Think a Second Time", by Dennis Prager A series of essays on wide variety of topics.  No matter where you stand on the issues, he lays out a reasonable defense of his beliefs.  Great book to exercise the gray matter up stairs and to provoke meaningful thought.
