Well for one, pray that people would click the ads that google places on your article.
Next pray they do not over click it otherwise you will get banned from google for TOS violation.
AdSense will provide advertising content that relates to your page or article. Write about the latest news of a film star and it is likely that you are likely to get adverts that relate to stardom, films or similar topics, write about accounting and your ads will be more business focused. The first may generate a larger number of advertising hits than the second, but you do have to remember that people overall do not wish to click on on-line advertising because it distracts them from what they are here to do - read your article.
It is complex, but generally the greater the number of readers you have the more advertising revenue you will generate.
