    That is a very good question and I hope we see more responses to this soon.  Just from what I observe from the students I know, many of them are pursuing either technical or medical careers as the employment opportunities are vast.  I still believe that the majority attend the fist year or two gathering experience and a foundation from which to build a career, and later decide to specialize as their interest develops.

      That would be most helpful.  I think high schools try to promote career searches when students reach the eleventh grade, but they have limited council. Perhaps intern opportunities presented by business groups, vocational schools, etc. would help.

    Many students aren't exposed to exactly how bad the job market actually is. i have no idea where you are from, but in the States, they basically tell you "follow your dreams! study what you enjoy!" But in the end, a bachelor's degree is just a bachelor's degree, unless it's an engineering degree or a nursing degree.
