I wouldn't say they are all scams but many are. The tell tale sign is if they ask for a credit card #, for money up front,  or require that you have to purchase special training or equipment. Ifi you are dealing with someone who is hard to get a hold of from a numbered company somewhere on the other side of the world, that's also a clue. Due diligence is in order here. see my hub

There are jobs online that aren't scam. I'm on oDesk, working as VA and web researcher. I got 11 contracts since I started and all of them were hourly contracts. On odesk, payment is guaranteed for hourly contracts. Haven't experienced a non-paid contract yet.

Be very careful. Do not give any personal information or credit card numbers or account info, or commit yourself to purchasing a 'start-up kit' or such. Most of these data entry jobs are scams; clues that you are being scammed are things such as not getting to talk to a real person or when they send you an email there is another step that you'll have to fulfill before you get any real info on the jobs etc. Don't waste your time and look for something closer to home where you can meet the people first and then get work from home from them. Hope this helps and good luck finding a job.
