How To Use Stumbleupon

Updated on September 4, 2014

Stumbling at Stumbleupon

I love Stumbleupon both for sharing and stumbling as they call it through what others have stumbled. It is a great way to share your blog post, hubpage, squidoo lens, Zazzle store or product or anything you find interesting on the web. I decided to make a lens about stumbling to help those new to Stumbleupon.

I often share Squidoo, Zazzle and my Imagekind gallery there.

I have had 500 views within 20 minutes!

Get the Stumble Button

The first thing you will want to do is get the Stumble button installed on your toolbar. You don't have to do that, but it makes sharing so much easier. In just one click you can share the page you are on if you install the button. If prefer not to do that you can just go to the page in your account which is the page that says Hi (your username) and there near the top and on the right you will find the words submit a site. This is the other option for sharing if you do not install the button.

If you want to install the button Stumbleupon will have you go to this page for Firefox users: Mozilla Add on for Stumbleupon

Sharing

Once you are on Stumbleupon make sure you find people to follow. Hopefully people will follow you. If you are on Squidoo there are other squids there. This page will explain how to follow others and how to share: How to Share and Follow. Sharing is not necessary for getting traffic to your share. I have had shares of mine get over 2500 views and I have had them only get 1 from nothing I did.

What is great about the fact you are sharing there is that it gives you a chance to get traffic to something you may want to get traffic to. A Zazzler for instance, which I am will want people to see their products. If people don't see it they don't know it exists. This mindset is why Stumbleupon is so cool. It gives you a chance to get whatever you are sharing to a wide audience in a unique way, simply because they stumbled upon it. This can be a benefit. I have often stumbled on something I was not looking for only to find I had great interest in what I saw or read.

I have put my Stumbleupon Profile here at the big arrow link. Please follow me and I will follow you back if you decide to Stumble.

Iris Close Up

Make sure you share from various places on the web. If you do not Stumbleupon only allows a certain amount of shares from one site before it won't allow more. It is temporary and the fastest way to fix this lock out is to share from other places on the web.

Make sure you view others shares also. I like to hit the stumble button to be taken randomly to something cool. It's always a surprise what you end up seeing, but I usually find it interesting. I give it a thumbs up or down or don't do anything. You can comment if you would like as well.

Topics

Choose your topics. They have 500 topics that may interest you. You will want to make sure you choose them because you will want to stumble to people who will be interested in similar topics which goes back to who you follow. Here is more information on topics Topics Page

Listed on the sidebar under the main Discover tab, your favorite topics are how you can meet new people of similar interests.. If one of your interests right now is Antiques. When you are interested in finding the best content from Stumblers who are experts in this category, you just need to click on the topic to see a list of other Stumblers who like it too.

There is a Squidoo Group on Stumbleupon here: Squidoo Group
