Organizing Your Desk and Home Office

Organizing Your Desk and Home Office
Everyone who uses websites like Squidoo, Zazzle and Etsy to work at home knows that the more organized your home office the better prepared you will be to tackle the hard jobs. If you're working around a mess (like I am at times) you'll be less likely to get anything done, unless you only work in the dark by the light of your computer screen. Do we really want to become mole people, just because we hate organizing?
Here I will give you helpful hints and ideas to get you started on your organizing journey. I will also show you new and awesome products to help you.

Desk with Drawers
I believe in the more drawers the better. Say you don't want an on the desk organizer, you can get a flat in the drawer one. You can keep your log in book in a drawer, so you never forget your log in codes and e-mails.
Keep it at your Fingertips
Keep everything you need at your fingertips. It's very frustrating when a client calls and you can't find a working pen or or even a scrap of paper. I've been through this a lot. I have a pen holder, but since I am an artist most of mine are fancy twist colored pencils and pencils and I always seem to have to look through my art slash writer drawer for a pen.
Computers and More
As for computers you can get very compact CPUs or you can buy a high GB laptop, so you can work away from your home office too. The reason I am featuring the Dell laptop because of it's memory size, it holds up 8GB and that is 16 times what my old computer holds and if you like to make short movies like I do you need lots of memory.
Drawers for Organizing
Printer Fax Stands
Small rolling stands are great because if you don't have a lot of room or are working with an antique desk like I have, you don't have the space or a built stand for your printer. You can roll this out and then store it away or keep there all the time. You can even get a closet organizer and store your office there while not in use.
You can store your office supplies and printer and faces in a vintage or new dresser. You can also sub organize your items if you have a lot of things you need. Photo boxes filled with pens instead of pictures, can be a great addition to your office.
Notes and Notebooks
Keep your notes and notebooks with stories, screenplays, log in books or magazines that you need on hand with these Whitmor plastic magazine organizers, they come in a set of 5 and in fun assorted colors. If you buy these cute desk organizers, but buy them used, they'll actually cost you more money.
Organizing
Organizing from the inside out by Julie Morgenstern.
I actually have this little book on organizing. I got it as a Christmas gift from my friend Maggie. This book is arguably the most popular book on organizing, by an author who has made a living out of writing organizing books.
Idock for Desks
This is great to keep track of all your expensive devices, I've placed my ipod in my remote desk top hold and have forgotten were it was. This will stop that from happening, while charging your item.

Trunks
You buy a new one online. Amazon, overstock, Wayfair, eBay, they all have trunks for sale.
I have a few trunks in my home. I have an antique one I bought at a yard sale for, a handcrafted one my mom bought me for my birthday. It was a few hundred, but you can buy a new one for around, less if you find it on clearance.
Some come with removable trays.
