The Six Biggest Time Wasters of Our Generation
Introduction
It has been said – if you lose money then you can earn it back. If you have gained weight then you can get in shape. In life, there is a possibility to get back almost everything, whether it is name, fame, money, job or health etc. But age and time are two things which we cannot get back in life.
If you are looking forward to success in life then you should never ever waste your time. Those people who are successful in life are the ones who never wasted their valuable time.
In this article, I am going to share the six biggest time wasters of our generation. And I am writing this article for those who are serious and committed about their life and career.
Too Much Worrying About Present And Future
The number one in my list is worrying about the present and future. This is definitely not acceptable. When we want to grow in life than during this stage we must focus on learning and productivity. First three to five years during our career we should always look forward to learning and try to implement those things.
Over my decade of corporate experience, I have seen that young fellows are confident but lack experience. They are worried too much about their future, office politics, colleagues and other's opinions etc. So, my honest advice for them will be to stick to your goals and try to learn and implement as much as possible. Just do best in whatever field you have entered and try to come out of the rat race as soon as possible.
Doing Multi-Tasking All The Time
Although it is true that a company loves an employee who can handle multi-tasking. In fact, during the interview, this is one of the most common questions asked by the interviewer.
In many of my previous interviews, I was told that I have to do this and that. Sometimes it’s important to hand multi-tasking but research says multi-tasking reduces the productivity in the long run. Therefore, if you have many tasks to handle then try to allocate or delegate within your team or at least first focus on one task.
But we follow this technique in our day to day life. For example, if you go shopping then you try to purchase things one by one and same way you should do in your office also. Don’t reduce your productivity by doing multi-tasking.
Looking For Perfectionism In Work
There is nothing in life that is perfect. Things which look perfect in your eyes may not be perfect for someone else. As we know opinion varies, therefore, don’t worry much about all these things. Yes, it’s true you need to listen to them, observe them but make changes as per your requirement.
Always remember at the end of your day you are responsible for your life. Someone opinion, mark sheet, remarks shouldn’t define the kind of person you are. So, rather look for ways through which you can improve your work and life. But also remember improvements take time and by implementing only over time you will get better.
Procrastination
If I think that I will write this article tomorrow or day after tomorrow then that is procrastination. To be honest, many dreams and ambitions of our life will simply die if we simply delay what the situation demands. For example, if you are a student then study demands your attention. If you are an employee learning and working demands your attention.
Don’t simply give excuses and waste your time and energy. Procrastination is one of the biggest time wasters of our generation. So, think and know about the future but focus on the present situation.
Watching Mindless Movies And Playing Video Games
When I was working in the corporate world I use to watch a lot of movies. In fact, right now I might have the biggest collection of movies in my small town. I might have over three hundred movies with me and most of them are original CDs.
But now when I think about this I feel I have wasted lots of money and time purchasing and watching mindless movies. As per my rough calculation I have purchased around worth 1 lakh movies during those times.
So, if you are reading my article, then don’t do this mistake. Watching meaningful movies once or twice in a month is alright. But if you are spending money every day on different online platforms just to get entertained by watching movies and playing video games then you are wasting your valuable time and energy. Even take care of your social media habits. If you are not making money out of them then you are wasting your time and energy.
I strongly wish someone would have told me about online side hustle during those days I could have escaped the rat race at the earliest.
Arguing With Someone And Then Starting A War
While writing about this point I found this point valid not only for individuals and societies but also between countries. For example, Pakistan is arguing about Kashmir from more than 70 years. We have even fought four major wars with each other. Many soldiers lost their lives and God knows how much wealth both sides have used to fought those wars.
Instead of thinking about Kashmir, Pakistan should think about how to progress as a nation. Same is the case with China, they should think about how to show honestly with their neighbours. In most of their cases where they are helping countries by lending money is actually showing a negative effect in the long run.
If individuals or countries are arguing with each other then I find this as the biggest time wasters of our human history. Just to prove your worth it’s not right to show dominance over others. So, never waste your time and energy on arguing with someone.
There is a difference between healthy debate and arguing. Healthy debate is something where you allow others to speak without reacting or losing your cool. But we cannot stop wars also because it is now ingrained in human blood.
Conclusion
I personally believe that human society can live peacefully but having a large population is a problem. When a nation will have more human capital than available resources there will be always a problem. I have heard from many friends from big cities that they want to leave but due to lack of job in their home town, they are not able to do so. So, I suggest them to start an online side hustle. Don’t waste so much time and energy building someone dreams. Follow your passion and build your business online. It takes time but if you are consistent and work hard enough possibilities are there.
