Challenge: 1,000 Hubs in 2012

Updated on January 11, 2012

Hey 2012, I've got a challenge for ya!

This year, 2012, I've decided to take a challenge upon myself of writing 1,000 Hubpages articles by the end of the year (you're more than welcome to join, too!).

Update: I've created a 1,000 Hub Challenge Facebook Page.

The Goal

As noted, I want to have 1,000 Hubs by the end of the year.

I'm doing this for two reasons:

  • It's a lofty challenge that will push me to write every day
  • I'd like to create a new, steady stream of online income

For those that don't know who I am, I'm Murray and I run the blog, Murlu.com.

In 2010, I took it upon myself to try out a similar challenge of 1,000 articles in 100 days using Helium. I didn't quite make it but I certainly got close (around 500 articles in that 100 day time-limit). I earned quite a bit of money but the change to Helium's payment methods pretty much killed off residual earnings which is why I'm now turning to Hubpages.

In short, I like to write.

Unfortunately, my blogs isn't always the best place for the quirky articles I like to publish - Hubpages has become the platform for the ... oddity.

The Rules

For anyone that wishes to join in on this challenge, there are only a few, simple rules:

  1. You shouldn't be already half way there
  2. You'll need to write about 2 - 3 Hubs a day

Simple! Right?!

I say "shouldn't be half way there" because if you're already pushing a couple hundred Hubs than the challenge may not do much for you. I'm currently sitting at about 60 hubs so I'm still a far shot off. That HUGE number ahead of you and I really puts us on our edge to get work done.

Secondly, you'd need to write about 2 - 3 hubs a day. Sure, you can write them all at the last minute but I don't think you'll get a lot out of them if you're cramming them (they'll end up low quality, imo).

Other-than-that, it's not a race but a challenge to simply see if it's possible to make it all work.

Coming Soon ... Get Started

I'd like to create a portal for this challenge as things progress where people can share their experience, gain some insight and have an alternative source of inspiration but I'll keep you in the loop as things work themselves out.

>> If you haven't joined Hubpages, take a tour, here <<

In the meantime, let's get started!

Note: This section will be used for future updates

Up to the challenge?

That's a lot to write. I'm just over 75 now, I think. I will join you and try for 1,000 by the end of the year.

      Marcy,

      Thanks for the support :)

Helium did a thing where you could write and get paid for pretty much every article - it wasn't much but then they were switching over to a marketplace and simply didn't provide enough for their writers. Some days you'd only find a few to write for and it was really low money :/

Hubpages, the earnings, so far, aren't huge but it'll add up especially since they switched over to the sub-domain approach which definitely helps with getting noticed. I like the modules too such as Amazon if I'm doing reviews and such :)

I'm in awe! Okay - if I make my 30 in 30 goal, I may for this one. I've only been on board for two days, so the sheen might wear off after the 30. I'll be pulling for you; I think it's a great goal.

Just curious -what changes did the other site institute regarding revenue? And what's your thought on HubPages policy?

Godspeed! I am aiming for 104 this year--2 hubs a week. Textbroker takes a lot of my time because I have steady work there at level 5.

I don't know if I can make 1,000 - but I don't see any harm in trying! I just have to find time to write more! Good luck with your challenge!

The challenge will make you go further than you would without it and will put you into stellar territory when you reach it.

Thanks all for the support - hope to see ya on board as well. Even if we don't hit 1,000 - the challenge, alone, is well worth the effort because a bit of stress always makes you perform well!

1000 in a year is a hefty goal. I'm trying for 1000 in 3 years. 1 a day is about all I can do. My hubs might be just a bit overly thorough. I need to cut down their size.

      That would be excellent Klanguedoc!

I have my main blog which I generally write longer posts but I decided to go with 'Oddity' because it's my outlet for everything I can't put on my main blog - generally off-the-wall stuff :D

Good luck in your own goals, hope ya make it!

Great goals. I hope you make it. My hubs tend to require a lot of research so it is hard to write more than one or two a week. I am shooting for another 100 hubs by the end of 2012.

Hey Hectate, thanks for the support.

I've been thinking about writing for Textbroker as well, is it any good?

Great goal! I'm trying for at least one a day, because I'm still writing for Textbroker and doing other online stuff. Good luck to you!
