Earn money from HubPages? 4 Weeks 38 Followers 30 Hubs 1000 views 31 cents and a few Accolades
‘Did you know that you can write and earn money on HubPages?’ is what my friend asked me a few months back.
‘No’ I said.
‘I hear that many people are earning thousands of dollars every month by publishing content’, she said.
In a sarcastic tone, I said ‘Really?’
‘Yes. Why don’t you check it out? You have been doing freelance writing in the past, haven’t you?’ she asked.
‘Yes’, I said.
‘How do I know it is not one of those Make Money Online websites which promise big bucks but deliver pennies?’, I asked her.
‘I don’t know about all that. It looks like the real deal. HubPages is on wikipedia too!’, she said.
‘The whole world is on wikipedia’, I murmured to myself.
Anyways, that was that. My curiosity finally got the better of me and I registered at HubPages. After the first few days, it hit me that HubPages is much more than just a website on which you can publish content and earn.
It has been 1 month since I registered at Hubpages. Now I ask myself.
Can you really earn at HubPages?
Why am I logging into HubPages every single day even though I am travelling?
What makes HubPages special?
What do these accolades mean?
I decided to write this Hub to recap on my first month at HubPages and I hope that this helps out fellow beginners here.
HubPages – Princesswithapen
At HubPages I’m Princesswithapen.
I published my first Hub. I found the HubPages layout pretty user-friendly. It works well, especially for users like me who don’t have a background in IT.
I published 10 hubs. Happily, I found out that I received an accolade for writing 10 hubs at HubPages.
Interacting with other Hubbers turned out to be more interesting than I imagined.Commenting on other Hubs comes naturally and you find yourself to be a part of a thriving online community. So much so, I am active on HubPages on a daily basis even though I am travelling right now.
I found HubHopping a great way to come across different types of Hubs and learn. If you are a beginner on HubPages and are looking for a place to start learning, HubHopping will be your best friend. Hop hubs everyday to learn, learn and learn.
HubPages thought that I leave insightful comments and made me a Level II commentator. I haven’t found out if that helps my views or revenue in any way. But hey, any accolade is more than welcome on my HubPages profile.
I also published the hub How to Deal with Peer Pressure which got selected as a HubNugget Candidate. I’m glad it did. Do you know why? Because it gave me some sort of assurance that there are people who are reading the content that you publish – Gives you a sense of satisfaction, doesn’t it?
You can vote for my hub at the HubNugget Candidate Hubpage. On the HubNugget Candidate Hubpage title ABC HubNugget School, scroll down and look for The Gender and Relationship Nominees. You will find my hub How to Deal with Peer Pressure. Simply click and vote!
HubPages also thought that Princesswithapen was popular among readers because of the feedback my hubs received. Great! I’m happy that readers at HubPages found my hubs interesting. That’s what we all want, don’t we?
In total, all my hubs received 1000 views.
Earning money from HubPages
Let’s talk money!
In June 2011, my hubs generated a revenue of 25 cents.
In July 2011, my hubs have generated 6 cents so far.
In total, after 30 hubs, the revenue generated from publishing content on HubPages is 31 cents.
‘Publish hubs and earn money – Really?’, I ask myself.
After a month on HubPages, I find that like any other job, there are no free lunches here. Here is my experience on HubPages.
- The HubPages community is warm and friendly.
- HubPages is easy to use and understand, even for beginners.
- Signing up with affiliates like Google Adsense and Amazon is simple. There are no complicated procedures that need to be followed.
- It is great fun to interact with other Hubbers.
- And most importantly, do not expect to become an overnight millionaire from HubPages. If you do, come tell me how and I will gladly pay you for your services.
The HubPages Verdict – 1 month test
31 cents in one month. Should I stay at HubPages?
Or should I continue focusing on freelance jobs that pay on a per-word/per article basis?
I have decided to stay and there are 3 reasons for my decisions.
1) HubPages is a gradual learning and earning curve. Fellow hubbers advice that ‘real earnings’ start only when you have a solid foundation of original and interesting hubs, which by the way can take 6 months to 1 year (minimum). Fingers crossed!
2) HubPages introduces you to people from different parts of the world. Many in the HubPages community realise that we must support each other to fulfil our dreams. The more you share, the more you learn and benefit.
3) If you like writing, you will love HubPages.
As I continue Hubbing on HubPages, I will keep writing hubs about my experience at HubPages which I hope are helpful to fellow beginner hubbers like me.
