Fan mail for a hubber, writer or mentor

Updated on May 18, 2013

Appreciation does not need to be a two way street.

So you like something so you figure out how to be friends or follow or subscribe to their writings.

That is a good thing and the idea of being a fan is a good thing, usually. Sports stars, TV celebs, Tabloid celebs, even politicians and musicians have fans. Be a fan of something more. Be a fan of someone who needs fans.

How to be a fan does not really work for what I am talking about. For writers who are not famous, a fan is a booster. Sure just like a booster rocket or a drink that boosts someone. A fan is someone who gets to know the writer and tries to comment on each publication the writer makes. Personally I limit to HP, as I work for a living elsewhere and this is enough.

For me, when I become a fan, I make a commitment to that person to watch and grow with them or at least, with the greats, grow after them ;-)

I figure I can be a fan of about 300 people who write.

Within 300 you will only find about 15 who are prolific as in say four times a week publishing. That is easy to pay attention to and very fun.

Let me mention some: Wayne Brown does not post all that much. His posts are long and in depth. So we follow him and write comments there, but with a guy like that, you kind of just write comments in hopes he will respond and you will learn something even more. Billybuc, writes daily especially about helping others and writing, so you are a fan, and might write comments for feedback to keep you straight. Lastheart and Eidwen do kind of long posts with great photos where you just kind of escape in their place, hold hands and feel better or enlightened. Here you give thanks.

Folks like Graceinus and SwordofManicor are niche fellows, and they challenge faith and thought constantly which is good for everyone --- damn well regardless of faith. We should participate for they ask us to as they have agendas.

Rolly Chabot and ecramer, take us away on purpose. Sometimes dropping us off in a better place but at least transforming us in the process. With these guys we should let them know how they effect/affect us. Because they are constantly refining their art and input is invaluable.

I have so many friends here like Colin and Cat and Theresa and Lurana and a few Chris's and Ed and Mark and a few Bills. Some day I will write a hub on each one and make a list for Santa on who is nice.

I have a lot of fans, for me.

There are good people that are just nice

I get these amazing compliments. I keep getting whiplash looking around for who the hell they are talking to. These are real fans. They care if my work is crappy, they care if I am wrong, they are always there for what I need when I need it.

However mostly it is just kind encouragement. My wife says I am the most insecure successful people she has ever met. (that is just because they are not honest with her) but she has a point.

I am not going to end this on a sappy note. But what I have learned here is that a regular fan of a regular guy, is mostly someone who is there for you. I will go now and hop some hubs and find some new folks and some old, and try to at least be a fan for one comment.
