Fan mail for a hubber, writer or mentor

Updated on May 18, 2013

Appreciation does not need to be a two way street.

So you like something so you figure out how to be friends or follow or subscribe to their writings.

That is a good thing and the idea of being a fan is a good thing, usually. Sports stars, TV celebs, Tabloid celebs, even politicians and musicians have fans. Be a fan of something more. Be a fan of someone who needs fans.

How to be a fan does not really work for what I am talking about. For writers who are not famous, a fan is a booster. Sure just like a booster rocket or a drink that boosts someone. A fan is someone who gets to know the writer and tries to comment on each publication the writer makes. Personally I limit to HP, as I work for a living elsewhere and this is enough.

For me, when I become a fan, I make a commitment to that person to watch and grow with them or at least, with the greats, grow after them ;-)

I figure I can be a fan of about 300 people who write.

Within 300 you will only find about 15 who are prolific as in say four times a week publishing. That is easy to pay attention to and very fun.

Let me mention some: Wayne Brown does not post all that much. His posts are long and in depth. So we follow him and write comments there, but with a guy like that, you kind of just write comments in hopes he will respond and you will learn something even more. Billybuc, writes daily especially about helping others and writing, so you are a fan, and might write comments for feedback to keep you straight. Lastheart and Eidwen do kind of long posts with great photos where you just kind of escape in their place, hold hands and feel better or enlightened. Here you give thanks.

Folks like Graceinus and SwordofManicor are niche fellows, and they challenge faith and thought constantly which is good for everyone --- damn well regardless of faith. We should participate for they ask us to as they have agendas.

Rolly Chabot and ecramer, take us away on purpose. Sometimes dropping us off in a better place but at least transforming us in the process. With these guys we should let them know how they effect/affect us. Because they are constantly refining their art and input is invaluable.

I have so many friends here like Colin and Cat and Theresa and Lurana and a few Chris's and Ed and Mark and a few Bills. Some day I will write a hub on each one and make a list for Santa on who is nice.

I have a lot of fans, for me.

There are good people that are just nice

I get these amazing compliments. I keep getting whiplash looking around for who the hell they are talking to. These are real fans. They care if my work is crappy, they care if I am wrong, they are always there for what I need when I need it.

However mostly it is just kind encouragement. My wife says I am the most insecure successful people she has ever met. (that is just because they are not honest with her) but she has a point.

I am not going to end this on a sappy note. But what I have learned here is that a regular fan of a regular guy, is mostly someone who is there for you. I will go now and hop some hubs and find some new folks and some old, and try to at least be a fan for one comment.

Wowsa honey baby Lady G. Me and my house shall pray and make the day for you and who you care for. It is what we do. My house is not like other houses. We do not do rich or material. We do happy and more happy, and when we are done with that we do more happy. There is world of hurt out there but in my home we pray for those who are hurt, from flowers to hawks to children and their mothers. Bring on any trouble and my family will pray and it will be the right way.

Wow I was lead here that is for sure. I came to get you to pray for a girl that I know that is in very big trouble. Instead I got a fuzzy feeling when I read this hub of yours. It felt like there was someone or something putting out their hand to me.

Anyway I really do need you to help pray for this girl. I will tell you more if my e-mail me at:

She has been through the ringer her whole life.

Thank you glassvisage, yes and unfollowing is ok too. I follow about 20 that I do not like, it is good for my learning. I would never have thought to follow poets, but wow there are some good ones.

I wrote a similar Hub: Essentially I don't feel obligated to be someone's fan just because they're one of mine new. I add people whose writings I actually like. Great job :)

Good Friend Colin, Thanks for coming over. I nowadays drink instant coffee. It really only has half the caffeine as percolated. I just love cups of the brew while starting my beach walk off slowly and savoring all that there is. And lately I have been savoring our friendship. Big waves from over here on the Pacific.

Well I am a big fan of Sir Eric and a good buddy too - I think of that song by the Four Lads - "standing on the corner watching all of the girls go by" and I laugh to myself and say "Yep that's Eric and me , lol."

You were born to write my friend and everyone one of your hubs is like a life affirming sermon and I don't necessarily mean 'sermon' in a church either but you speak of life and living and people always in such a personal way and that is why lucky readers like me can relate to you.

      God bless you Mister D.

lake erie time 9:23am I am trying to cut back to 2 cups of coffee a day now in the morning and off for my walk along the beach. Have a great day and be safe and be well.

As I taught in our Bible study today which I centered around the Psalms of David. What a powerful king and yet he leads us to develop that which is important --- Not his Kingdom but the Kingdom of love. When we love each other Joy and friendship are the rule.

MsDora you bring much joy and friendship to all of us, thank you.

(oh and I sent them home with your quiz - I wonder what we will learn from the children)

Eric, I appreciate you for showing up as often as you do on my page. Bless you, my friend (as Billybuc would say). I also enjoy following you; you call attention to the things that matter.

Jack Burton, alias Carl, I think you have a good right to post that here. Life is good. And in my home we say, "let him speak". And we learn of the sadness and loss of hope of many and we pray for you.

My big brother loves to point his 6'7 finger at you and say "we got to talk". And then that talk goes into an expose'/treatise on love and synergism, and how if we do not work together we do not WORK at all. Amen brother Bill we has drank the coolaid. And this drink is refreshing!!

I love that you show loyalty, Eric! So many writers miss out on the joy of forming relationships on this site. You obviously "get it" and those of us who you follow salute you. Thanks buddy and great message.
