My Hubpage Income and Experience

Updated on February 13, 2013

Progressing Towards Financial Freedom

I came over to HubPages from Squidoo after searching around the internet for other ways of generating an income online. I made my first hub on the 4th April 2012 and have been steadily increasing my hubs and income each month.

My overall online goal is to eventually bring in $2000 a month. Whether I make that goal or not is entirely debatable. In order to obtain my goal I will be looking to generate approximately 25% or $500 a month from HubPages. I am giving myself a 2 year goal to reach this as I think anything less would be far too stressful.

My first priority with my earnings will be to pay off student debt and then to get an emergency fund together. After those two goals are accomplished I will start working towards my $2000 a month goal so that I can leave my day job and work from home - being disabled this would make life a whole lot easier for me.

What Will I Be Reporting Here

On this hub I will be reporting my monthly income as I start to work towards my $500 on Hubpages.

From time to time I will be doing writing challenges where I aim to increase my total number of hubs and earning potential within a short period of time. For example I recently (September 2012) did a 30 Day Challenge and in January I will be doing that exact same challenge again but hopefully with more success.

My First Five Months on HubPages

As you can see in the table I have been slowly increasing my earnings but not as quick as I would like. I am pleased, however, that I have doubled my earnings each month but disappointed that I haven't made any sales so far.

I'm not loosing heart though as I have read that it takes at least 50 hubs and 6 months before you start to see any real gains here.

Stay tuned for more...

September 2012

I started doing a 30 Day Challenge on the 3rd September which I'm fairly excited about. It's going well so far (all two days of it) and my plan is to draft out 30 hubs and then fill them up with content.

I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

Update

September was an amazing month where I nearly tripled my earnings. I didn't make it through the challenge as I only managed to finish 20 hubs. I'm now over my 50 hub goal and I'm looking forward to what next month's earnings will be like.

What are your monthly earnings from HubPages?

October 2012

I am seriously disappointed with my earnings on Hubpages this month. I was hoping that I would get an upward trend and beat last month's performance. However, this is not the case as something has gone seriously wrong.

From what I've been able to gather from the forums and other Hubbers there was a Google update and Hubpages did their own series of updates too which has had a massive knock-on effect with traffic. I know I'm not the only one effected by this but it's a pain in the a** when I've worked so hard at my editing and trying to make high quality articles.

My traffic for October dropped dramatically to around 20-50 views per day which is atrocious when you compare it to the 200-300 views per day last month. I don't know when my traffic will pick up again but I do hope it's soon otherwise I may have to consider transferring my articles. I'm going to ride this out until the new year, keep editing my articles, and hope that Hubpages sorts out their little problem.

November 2012

I haven't really had time to write much this month because I have been playing around with a new hobby of mine: making clothes. When I have gotten a little better at it I'll put up some new instructions on my hubs.

As for my earnings this month I am pleased that they have increased, even if it's only by a small amount. However, when you look at the percentages I have increased my earnings by 86%. I also made an eBay sale but I wont see how much I made from that for another couple of weeks and I have also made a couple of sales with my own Amazon account so things are definitely starting to pick up again even if it is very slowly.

December 2012 - January 2013

I haven't been writing any new hubs recently because I've been working on the ones that I've already got. This is going to be the plan for 2013 until I've got the majority of my hubs bring in a decent amount of traffic.

Hubpages has got a new system where if your hubs are not getting enough traffic they are taken out of featured status and can only be accessed via your profile and back-links. They will not be picked up through search-engines or any other means either. I'm not really sure what the purpose is here but I can only keep on learning. I can understand that Hubpages wants high quality hubs but to take out hubs from search engine results just confuses me. Either way I'll be working on those dormant hubs until I can get them up to the new standards.

I'm basing my editing around a hub I came across called the Flagship Hub Program. I know it no longer is relevant but it does have some great tips on making a really awesome hub. I'm fairly confident that by adding new content to my dormant hubs and by following the tips laid out here I can bring my account up to scratch and start earning more money like I did in September 2012.
