The Anonymous Commenter

Updated on May 16, 2012

Since I have started on Hubpages I have had the anonymous commenter habitually leaving negative remarks on my hubs. This is a person who has absolutely no hubs and has been on HP for less than a few weeks (Sometimes in fact it is 18 minutes) who like to leave very inappropriate comments to cram their agenda down my readers throats.

In the beginning I allowed these comments as I was very pro freedom of press and freedom of speech. But I have had to endure a lot of hatred and cruel jabs. This seems unfair because theoretically we could all have second and third identities and drag each others hubs down and not pay the metaphysical toll because we were doing it anonymously. Yet, I have not done this. I have tried to play very fairly in this community when others have sunk to low levels to discredit certain writers. I no longer take any comments from writers who are not established hub writers who are willing to come from out the shadows and make honest constructive criticisms. I highly recommend all of you do this as it is hard enough to come up with fresh new material that is relevant and answer sincere comments without having to deal with these pests.

There are legitimate reasons to have more then one account name. For instance I have 533 hubs right now in a year. It has occurred to me to create a new name and start over for simplistic reasons. When I am citing my own hubs it becomes increasing difficult when I have to review 533 hubs each time I want to add a link. I also would prefer to have a name for each genre I write in. For instance I would like to have a strictly poetry hub and then perhaps a strictly political hub or a strictly autism hub. But because the practice of using names to undermine other writers hubs in what can only be ascribed to as subterfuge is so prevalent I will not. I still reserve the right to use other names in the future but if I do I can promise you two things. One, I will be focused on producing quality work for the hub community and not sabotaging other writers. And two, when I am not writing I will be reading or answering questions or asking them. But I will not harm another writer just to cram my beliefs down another writer’s readers’ throats. Personally, I think we should respect each others’ work and encourage each other. But again I am not shoving my values onto you. I am just simply stating that I don’t believe anyone should have the right to tear another’s work down. I also don’t believe that a commenter without at least 10 hubs should be able to make comments. I believe that those who have written five (5) articles on the proper use of grammar are informative but not experienced enough to actually provide criticism and that all criticism needs to be constructive.

While I realize this maybe an unpopular opinion for those who still engage in the practice of subterfuge on hubpages, I think it is desperately needed to maintain the integrity of the community. And I moderate now and will forever.

      Thanks Thandi,

You know I have moved on with my research. It does happen especially if you write political pieces which I do.

Thanks for your support. I am so grateful for every kind word you have ever written and you are such a talented writer yourself.

      Thank you

I haven't come across this kind of 'literary sabotage' forgive my language but people who engage in such should be banned. Each and everyone of us is entitled to his or her own opinion and if yours conflicts with another person, then go your way. As simple as that not trying to force your own opinion down an unwanted throat.

Hope the person aint disturbing you anymore? Just take it as another distraction.

      Move on, am backing you.

      Hi bethperry,

Lovely to hear from you. Too bad others have to pick on writers instead of spending their time honing their own writing skills. The negativity is so counter productive to the soul. And I couldn't imagine anyone of being jealous of me. Maybe Dex because he is awesome but I am not that talented. I just make up for my lack of talent in volume.

It is really nice to meet you.

I'm glad I haven't had to deal with anyone like that!

JT, sorry to hear about the mean comments! I decided some time back to moderate my comment section (though for slightly different reasons). Honestly though, I think if someone is picking you or Dexter or others out for special harassment I think they may just be jealous of your talents. I hope things work out from here on out for you.

P.S. I had no idea we can have more than one account. Not that I'm personally savvy enough to keep up with more than one, lol!

      Hi Dex,

You are a gem as so many writers are on HP. But yes, I get harrassed sometimes by people who have just jioned 45 minutes ago who have published zero. I think I get it so often because I publish so frequently. And it does bring you down as a writer and a creative person. You want to quit. But then I come across really nice people like yourself and I stay in because it is limited.

It has been more out of hand lately then before. I think because it is an election year.

      You are awesome!!

      Hi Shea,

Hubbers seem to be more sensitive to each others work. The individuals I refer to are non-hubbers who have published absolutely nothing and have very little time as hub members.

Have a wonderful day and nice to hear from you!!

Hi JT! I had a really mean-spirited person that continually harassed me on HP last year. I almost quit HP because of him. What was the problem? He didn't like my style of photography. Go figure! I had some HP friends to help me deal with him and I finally reported him to HP. He is banned from communicating with me.

Most of the people we encounter here are good, but it can be very stressful having to deal with comments from people that have evil in their heart.

I now moderate all comments all though I have not had any problems since.

Thanks for sharing but know you have friends and supporters here!
