Why You Should Comment On Hubs Then Visit Another Hubber Commenter.

Updated on January 20, 2016
Source

Reason's To Make Comments

I often look at the number of views I have and the number of comments I have. There might be 30 views but no comments. Now I know some of those views are Hubbers. They don’t comment and I often wonder why. They don’t like it; they just don’t want to take the time. What is the reason?

Why not comment? The biggest reason Hubbers should comment is the fact that it brings more people to their own hubs and they are noticed. I often go on hubs and I look at the comments and visit the person’s profile. If someone leaves a comment I will visit their hubs and leave comments on their hubs. It can go on and on. If you're not commenting, you are making a big mistake. It will help you bring up your score and bring traffic to your hubs. Google likes sites with lots of comments.

New Hubbers should know this. I also try to visit anyone that visits my hub and leaves a comment. If they leave a comment I know they have been to my hub. I look at their profile and pick a hub to read and comment on.

The more comments you get the better because those commenters may share your hub on with other Hubbers.

Some Hubbers No Time.

There are some Hubbers that never visit other hubs. Some that say they have no time. I can understand the time thing, but if it’s just a few comments you leave it gets you out there people start to know you. They will come to your hubs. It’s to your advantage to make comments on hubs. I also know there are some top Hubbers that say they get too many comments and can’t answer them all. I don’t go to some of their hubs. There is the money making top Hubbers on here that do answer all their comments and are nice people and always willing to help others.

There are also Hubbers that leave comments off their hub or if they have comments they don’t comment back to some of the comments they get. I guess they have their own reasons, but I don’t know what it would be. I stop following those people. I figure if they don't comment on my comment they are never going to visit my hub. If they don’t have time for me I don’t have time for them. I don’t get my feelings hurt I just know I have taken my time with them and I will no longer do that. My time is also important to me. I would also rather spend my time with Hubbers that care.

I commented on a hub recently and this Hubber commented back to everyone but completely skipped my comment. It seems I was the only person left out. That's ok I won't take the time on her hubs any longer and I will not pin, share, or vote on her hubs. I wouldn't have thought much of it, but she had made a small remark about me on another hub so I get it she doesn't like me.

You should response to each and every comment you receive separately. I think this will also help your hub. There are times mistakes can be made and your comment is missed.

I also try to hub hop and see what new hubs are out there and try to comment on them. I comment on many different types of hubs. I love it when I’m the first commenter.

When you comment on someone's hub they will get a message from HubPages letting them know you have commented and it will come up on their comment page. They will see they have a comment from you. Now they know you and they know you exist. They may share your hub with others.

If you’re just here to write well then maybe comments aren’t important to you. They should be because you want to know what people think of your work.

If you're here to make money than you need to comment. Comments are a good way to get more people to your hub.

Here's How It Goes.

Here’s an example what you can do. Nothing new I’m sure to old Hubbers. It's just a different kind of sharing. I visited a hub this morning called

Fun Things To Do With Glow Sticks by Jamie Brock. I commented. I looked at her other comments and I picked one commenter to visit. That commenter was Ebower. I commented on her hub Vintage 60’s Makeup. As you all know I’m having trouble coming up with more words. Have I hit 500 yet?

Do you want followers? Leaving comments is the way to get followers and comments on your own hub. If you’re a new Hubber please don't follow everyone you see your score will go down very fast.

Please pass on your comments to others. What you have to say is important and welcomed to all Hubbers. Don't leave short comments like "great hub." Take the time to say more.

If you’re not taking the time to do this you should it will help your hubs. I also try to make sure I comment on Hubbers I know will come back and visit my hubs.

If you see a hub that looks interesting stop and leave a comment. There are so many Hubbers on HubPages you will never run out of hubs to look at. Some are so interesting and some are not. I'm sure lots of my hubs don't interest a lot of people.

Think of answering a comment as if you’re sending out a thank-you note. If you can try to comment at least ten times a day. I don't criticize anyone in the comments I leave or try not to start an argument, it's wise on HubPages to be a nice person rather than a person that is always unhappy or causing trouble.

Read the hub you visit all the way and stay awhile so you know exactly what is being said. I have often seen comments on my hubs when I know the person hasn't read it. They will ask me a question that has already been answered on the hub. I don't get upset over it, at least, they have come by and taking the time on my hub. We're all guilty of scanning I'm sure and sometimes you can do that with smaller hubs. I wish I was like my aunt she can speed read. What a gift.

Think of answering a comment as if you’re sending out a thank-you note

Hubbers That Never Comment Back

In the last three days, I have had four comments on my hubs. I have commented on 39 hubs in two days. I was up last night couldn't sleep so did some comments.

I make comments often on one hubber's hubs, but they never comment back and yet I see them commenting on other hubs. My question would you comment on their hub again?

How Do You Feel About A Hubber That Never Visits Back. Would You Comment On Their Hubs Again?

See results

Things are changing on Hubpages.

I no longer hub hop. I don't like the new hopper. It takes to long. You have to leave a rating on the hub even if you don't want to. I just will not use it again. I'm sorry about this. I always liked to comment on new hubs.

They have changed the hub hopper. They have added the classic hopping back so now I hub hop again. I'm so glad they changed it.

Views

Remember any hubber that visits your hub after you have left a comment on their hub could easily bring in more views for you. They may pin, ad to Facebook, twitter, share it with their followers or add it to G+ all of this could bring more views to your hub from outside HubPages.

Like it says in the comments "One advantage of commenting that is worth mentioning is that, for SEO purposes, it will leave a dofollow link back to your profile."

I don't know what has happened lately, but my views are going up. I'm not complaining. I’m so glad to see them going up for once instead of down.

What Now?

Well, now views have dropped. It's so hard to keep up with the up and down of views. I have no idea why they dropped, but I have heard Panda and Penguin have been around. They don't like me and that is usually why my views go down.

The strange thing that has been happening is hubs that are never at the top are there now and hubs that I get more views on are now going down.

Much worse now about half of traffic from Google is gone. The news explanation for drop-in traffic. http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/114897.

2015

Things have changed again. Just a few days ago I had a Hubber score of 93 today it was 88.

I love the pics of the old typewriters. I think I commented when you first published this, but it's a good article. Whether we write on Hubpages a lot or occasionally, most writers love some kind of feedback. It is also, as you pointed out, a benefit to the writer and to the one leaving the comment.

As for that Hub score, that is a moving target for sure! Just have to roll with it. I can't see the rhyme or the reason for the changes, although I've seen many explanations.

      You take care.

Shyron E Shenko, I know what you mean about the Hubber score. Yesterday in the feed my score was showing 88 but on the profile page, my score was 87. The scoring doesn't make sense.

I have had trouble getting all of my comments answered and I know I am behind. All of 2014 my husband was too sick and I just get on here. After he passed away I didn't get off the sofa for months. I still have bad days. I visit HP but I don't catch up on comments. Every day gets a little better. Blessings and Hugs to you.

Dear Moonlake, I appreciate this hub...so I am back to re-read.

Commenting, I always thank anyone who comments on my hubs and return a comment, albeit not always right away as I have a lot going on away from my computer. I know that you Moonlake are the one person who understands what I am saying. I also know that sometimes I may miss a comment(er), but I always try to keep up with comments, and I truly appreciate anyone who visits my hubs.

I don't know what is wrong with HP's Hubber's score, but it is driving me crazy. When I went to my profile this morning it was 87 as soon as I click on your hub my hubber score dropped to 86, yesterday it went up to 88, and the moment I went to answer a question it dropped 2 points.

Anyway Blessings and hugs my friend.

This is a very important subject and you explained it well.

I have also noticed that some hubbers don't pay attention to moderating their comments left in their hubs. I have left comments that never get approved. And I see that they have few, if any, comments. So I guess they are receiving comments and just not approving them.

Every once in a while a comment I left many months ago suddenly gets approved. And the author finally posts a reply. That's an interesting experience.

I have to say, there is one thing I view differently from you. When someone does not reply to my comments, I give them slack if I notice they have tons of comments. I can only imagine how difficult it would be to keep up with all that.

But I do agree with you in the case where they have just a few comments. If they don't approve mine in a timely manner, or if they don't acknowledge it, I may be inclined to not waste time leaving comments in their other hubs.

In addition to leaving comments in hubs, commenting in the forums also gets one recognized and can bring other visitors. The bottom line is to be sociable and be active all over the place.

Maybe I comment too often... I enjoy reading almost as much as writing, likely spending as much time with print as the average person spends with television... If I find what I am reading to be interesting, inspiring or informative I will always leave a comment, even if just to say 'thank you'... By the way: Thank you!

I was wondering about this!!! Wondering if leaving comments ever accomplished anything for the commenter, aside from giving them a chance to voice their opinion. Now I see that some hubbers take their comments very seriously, like you. I will make a point of tying to comment more. From now on.

I always try to comment (even a brief one if I don't have much time) on hubs that interest me. Most of the time these are positive comments because I agree with the writer or at least do not disagree.

If a hub doesn't really 'speak to me' in some way, I may vote and click on the feedback icons that apply, but not write a comment. I've met new writers to read through my comments about their hubs and theirs about mine. I believe the Comment section should be used as much as practical. That said, I don't get a lot of comments for some of my hubs, while a couple receive quite a few. I don't know whether it's the subject matter or the actual content of my hubs that influences the number of comments. When I was posting fiction on HP, I usually had a following of Hubbers who routinely commented, but I've since unpublished all my fiction from the site.

However, I just made a comment on the Hub of the Day explaining why my opinion is in opposition to some statements made in the hub as factual. (Did I say that I'm very opinionated and am not shy about sharing my opinions? Haha.) The hub writer may or may not reply to me, but either reaction is okay with me. I simply felt the need to respond in the manner in which I did.

Wow you received a lot of comments from this hub. At first I needed to learn how everything worked and in the beginning it was easy to keep up with the replies and then automatically visited the person who left a comment so I could return the favor. Now the more followers I have its getting more difficult to keep it up. The emails from hubpages are starting to block my inbox. How do others do it? I'm always amazed at Billy. For him Hubpages must be a full-time job. Lately I am in the habit to add any new follower onto my Google+ list and if I see a new hub appearing I like it and view it. I know that will earn the person something. if I have the time I will read the hub and comment. For me Time is an issue, but I do my best.

Hi Moonlake - Great article on commenting on hubs. If someone comments on my hub, I try to visit their profile if it is not a familiar name, and then find a hub that interests me. I love to read hubs, and learn about more subjects that way and become familiar with the person's writing. I might follow that person, if I like the writing and subjects. You and I seem to comment in the same way. This is a great hub to introduce the comment procedure for better understanding. Sharing this hub. Blessings, Audrey

Dee aka Nonnam, I know what you mean when you get sick it's hard to keep up. I'm behind with my comments; my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer Dec. 28 so we weren't even home he was in and out of the hospital. When we were home he needed help just getting dressed or getting up out of his chair. I got way behind I tried to keep up when he was napping. I would jump on and try to comment or whatever on Hubpages. That was hard too because I had so much more work to do at home.

I appreciate you coming by. Yes this hub has received a lot of comments I was surprised by it.

Moonlake, I was so happy when I saw this come into my email that a new comment had been posted. You have gotten a really lot of comments....bravo, because it really is a wonderful hub.

I left a comment many months ago....don't really remember what I said, but I do know it was positive. From the moment I came to hubpages I always tried to be kind and respectful to other hubbers. People write for many reasons and each of us deserve that opportunity. If we can keep writing and getting encouragment we will get better. Comments left by some are just plain cruel.

A while back I got sick and just didn't have the strength to keep up.....it has been a slow process trying to get back.....much, much slower than I ever imagined, but I do not intent to give up. Many of my older hubs need some serious work, but I am slowing working on them. I have taken some of them down for that reason.

Anyway, it is a great reminder. I may run a little behind in making a comment, or responding but I will get there. I just think it is the highest form of respect to another writer.

Very good points. I, too have sometimes been annoyed by leaving a nice comment on a hub, and they seem to answer everyone else's comment by name, and not mine. I do not re-visit their hubs. Nor to I re-visit hubs of those who cannot be bothered with at least a 'thank you' for the comment.

Sometimes I will read them, but I scan the comments, and if there are no replies, I don't leave a comment.

Maybe that's petty, but as you say, the comment/reply interaction is beneficial to both parties.

I did not reply at the very first when I was brand new, because I didn't know better..but that phase didn't last long. However, now that I've been here 4 years, I am still learning, and my goodness...you have a great idea about visiting another commenter on a person's hub. What a great way to meet more Hubbers!

Going through the comments for a hub with an interesting or useful topic is something I usually try to do, but these hundreds of comments are daunting! Congrats on the good response! :)

Being able to read and comment on others hubs isn't always possible, but commenting is usually a chance to hone my writing skills so I like doing it, especially when I can reciprocate the kindness of a reader leaving a note that they've read my work.

"I can understand the time thing but if it’s just a few comments you leave it gets you out there people start to know you." - When I read this I thought maybe You just had a few followers but then, I looked and saw the 1,114 and I am wondering "a few comments" times 1,114 equals tons of time (in my opinion). How do You manage?

And that is exactly why I personally do not do the tic for tac thing (as in I read your hub and You go and read one of mine). I read this hub because the title sounded interesting (I thought I would like to know one's opinion on the topic) but I certainly do not have any expectations of what You should do in return. You might drop your account over night because You found a better web site to write on ... who knows ... or maybe none of the subjects I write on are interesting for You so, I hold no expectations.

Yet, I have found that many people here on Hub-pages do have that hub etiquette of reading someone's work because they read yours. So, for those who agree to that criteria, all the best but I for one am happy with your statement which said: " it's wise on HubPages to be a nice person rather than a person that is always unhappy or causing trouble." Just being welcoming an helpful is good enough for me.

      All the best!

      P.S. If I visit a hub, I always leave a comment ... that's just me though.

Moonlake, When ever I visit any hub, i do leave a comment. Since I always comment back on a Hub of someone who comments on mine, so this helps both ways. When ever you leave a comment , the writer knows who visited his page and can reciprocate too. This way your work can get more views. Also if someone have time to read hub which takes 5 to 15 minutes then I am sure he has one more minute to put a comment on it. Very nicely written Hub, voting it up, sharing and awesome.

I always comment back to anyone that leaves a comment but in 5 years I may have missed someone but it would have been by accident. I try to get to everyone's hub I think I do. Sometimes I get behind like I am now.

Good tips .. I'm always for helping fellow hubbers out by taking the time to read their work and give genuine feedback ... we expect to create hubs and generate traffic but then to expect traffic we need to contribute to it too

Moonlake, if I should miss commenting on one of your hubs, it would only be because I did not see it. I always answer hub comments, I thought it was common courtsey, like when you are talking to someone.

This is a good example of how people should treat people. Not just here on HP but everywhere, all the time.

An engaging hub! Recently, I made a habit of commenting back on fellow-hubbers' hubs. Not only this helped in bringing views to my hubs but also enabled me in creating camaraderie among fellow-hubbers. Well-said!

Great hub, I actually wrote an article on this topic almost a year ago. Commenting builds community and trust which adds value to this platform. It's a great service to provide feedback and share.

I regularly comment on the hubs I visit and like. What do I expect in return? Nothing. However if someone wants to visit my hubs and leave a comment it will be appreciated. Even more so if they share the hub with fellow hubbers and facebook. Thumbs up and sharing.

Peggy W, I know what you mean I am trying to get some spring cleaning done and in a few weeks it will be time to get the garden ready. I always answer my comments and comment on that person's hubs but it does at times take me awhile if I'm busy. Thanks for the share.

      Hi moonlake,

Wow! This hub of yours is really getting the comments and deservedly so. Occasionally it takes me a while to respond to every person who leaves a comment if I am busy doing other things which is the case lately because of gardening and other things that have been keeping me busy...but sooner or later everyone gets a comment back. For people who have not yet learned the importance of doing this, your hub will perhaps teach them to start doing this. Will share once more.

I have been writing Hubs for over a year and I just recently began writing comments on others Hubs. I also try to find Top Commenters and go to their profile to see their Hubs and make a comment on one of them.

      Hi moon lake,

I think some people just don't get it; like me! I just recently began to understand the importance of commenting. I've heard it referred to as hub karma.

I'm glad to have you as hub friend and I appreciate all your comments.

Thank you for this article, since it will help others that haven't gotten it yet. I wish I had read this sooner:)

Thanks, find it really interesting and helpful for a beginner like me.

Just seeking some advice if possible, joined hubpages on a whim 2 days back and intending to use it as a platform to hone my writing skills and serve as my portfolio to pursue post graduate studies in mass communication. Does it sound plausible?

Thanks for explaining some of the ways my score is going down. I was checking out some hubs to see what the different styles were or subject matter. I did not realise that this would lower my score.

I also did not think about offering a "Thank You" note to those that comment, but yet it makes perfect sense.

      Glad I found this Hub!
