Writing Online and Make Money While Doing It ... Really?

Updated on February 22, 2013

Writing Online - To Do or Not To Do?

I have considered this so many times. I personally, have not had the courage to do so - well, not YET. The online world can be so scary for some. There is the chance that so many people will see what you have written, but with this chance comes the chance of a lot of criticism.

We are human, we don't always like to hear things about ourselves that can be discouraging. It can feel like a knife to the stomach! But, with putting your writings online, you are giving the world the chance to take a 'stab' at you a million times over. With writing in general, we all have to accept the criticisms out there like a grain of salt. We have understand that these people are trying to be honest and helpful at the same time.

We can't assume that everything that we write is 'horrible' just because 2 people out of 10 have something negative to say. We have to look at the big picture. 8 people did enjoy it, that really isn't that bad.

My theory is, if you enjoy writing - then write! There is no harm in doing it. If someone chooses not to follow you or not to even read what you have written, will it really make a difference? Sure, you want to find a way to have a million followers and a million comments a day, but that is a little unrealistic. If just one person gets what I am saying and enjoys all I had to say - that is enough for me.

Decision Time

I think I am going to give it a shot!! There is no harm in it. I will write what I feel, when I feel it. It doesn't mean that everyone else out there is going to agree with what I have to say, but I feel, JUST SAY IT!! That is one of the wonderful things about living in North America - Freedom of Speech. We have a right to voice our opinions on every topic out there. Sure, we do have to be a little careful about how we say it, without being offensive - especially when using a platform like Hubpages.

The decision is made, it is worth a try. I have spent too much time in my life always asking myself "What If?" and I am just getting a little too tired asking it again and again! Life is too short! Hubpages has been a wonderful place for me so far and I intend on remaining here and giving it my all. But now, I am going to spend more time writing about the things that matter to me.

Hi theunlearner! Thanks for your comment. Facing our fears is the first step. Courage is the next. Chris Rock is right, we can't let others bring us down. If we allow that, we will only be letting ourselves down. I am glad you faced your fears too. Lets conquer!!

Hi Kentrallos! Writing is something that I have personally loved to do in my spare time and when the feelings were just, well - there. With considering writing online, I personally would still have to find the time. But at the same time, it is a passion for me. I never thought of taking courses a local college as a way to make my writing better. That is such a good idea! I will look into it and see what there is to offer out there. Having the confidence is there first step, the second - pure courage! I think I have finally found the courage and now I will stop at nothing to make this a goal for myself. Good luck with your classes and wishing you much success!

I have actually spent two years considering this. I did want to find a way to produce income online, but felt that tasks were better suited. I did not have enough confidence in my writing abilities to post anything. After a few college classes my confidence is still not extremely high, but I'd rather spend my time learning now than putting it off.

I completely resonate with this article. I have a few youtube video, and it took so much courage to film them and put it out to the world. I watched an interview with the actor and comedian Chris Rock recently, and he said that throughout his career, he has never ever given any time to negative thoughts from others.

Once you get your confidence, negative unkind comments( which I am sure you will NOT get) will just bounce off you.

Good for you for facing your fears, I look forward to reading further articles.
