You Can Attract More Traffic to Your Site

Updated on March 26, 2010

How Can this Advice Help You?

Let's look at techniques for driving more traffic to your HubPages. As a computer consultant I have helped many brick-and-mortar businesses establish popular sites. My perspective will help you as well.

Know your URL

URL is Internet jargon for Universal (or Uniform) Resource Locator. It's your web address. My Hubpages URL is http://hubpages.com/profile/nicomp. Why does it matter? It matters because I can't tell people about it if I don't know what it is. I'd feel silly if I had a phone but didn't know what number to give out.

Hot tip: it's OK to drop the http:// . Modern browsers assume it anyway and it has no meaning to most of your potential customers. Trying to memorize it just causes their eyes to glaze over.

Link Your URL to Your Telephone Number

When asked for your telephone number, volunteer your URL as well. When you order business cards, letterhead, or signage, put your URL everywhere you put your telephone number. If you have your car painted, leave room for your URL.

Offer Reciprocal Links to Related Businesses

What passions do you write about? There's a good chance that someone else has the same passion and they've built a site for it. Contact people with common interests and negotiate reciprocal links. Trade organizations are an excellent source for these types of arrangements. If they link to you, offer to link back to them. Remember that Google ranks a site partly based on how many sites link to it.

Add Your Site to Your Email Signature

Each time you send electronic mail, send your URL with it. Most people put their name and their email address in their signature. Add your URL just below your email address. Outlook lets you create a custom signature that's automagically appended to any email you create.

Consider Some AdSense

As they say, "You have to spend money to make money." Google will drive visitors to your HubPages account. AdSense lets you pick the types of sites where you want your ads to appear. If you write about gardening, you can focus your ad dollars on gardening sites. Always perform a cost-benefit analysis before writing the check.
