Having my picture appear next to my articles in the search results has boosted my views by around 40% across the board. Nobody has ever accused me of being sexy (if anything, the reverse), however I believe people tend to trust the act of transparency inherent in attaching your name and persona to what you write. It also helps in building an online portfolio.
