Let's write a story together and see what we come up with.
You get 10 words or less to continue the story from the previous post.
Here's the first line...
As the 1966 Ford Mustang reached the 30 MPH corner..........
GO!
That blasted Corvette powered past us, tires smoking and squealing.
Heartbeats undiscernible from the barely muffled reverberation of raw horsepower.
Adrenaline gushing through our veins, electrifying us, exciting us.
Two 427s. His side-oiler was installed specifically to answer the tri-power Corvette.
Ooooh, the sounds of these motors revving up gets me excited..........
Um...yeah...either have fun with it or go away, right? lol
next sentence,
So, Brittany and Bobby hopped from their cars like the Dukes of Hazzard...
It had been the buzz of the town and they did not want to miss this race.
(Perhaps the limit could be one sentence, rather than 10 words?)
Yep, I've been going along with it because it makes sense:)
Brittany muses, "I will get revenge for Bobby's new girlfriend stealing Bobby away from me."
(Wasn't sure if I should be using "reply", so here goes.)
Typically you can use the "post a reply" button at the bottom (if you're not looking to paraphrase). Hope that helps and thanks for playing:)
Brittany muses, "I will get revenge for Bobby's new girlfriend stealing Bobby away from me."
And that is when the real race began, a race of love and revenge with satisfaction as the ultimate prize.
Bobby felt horrible for the hurt he'd caused Brittany but he loved her so
While new girlfriend Jessica fixes her lipstick in the rear view mirror, Brittany challenges Bobby, "Race is on, quarter mile run to dead mans curve, pinks on the line."
...and then off in the distance, they saw the orange lights -one single bluish beam gleaming and shining down upon the gravel.. a rush of wind and the whirrr... closer, closer...
She longed to hold him in her arms, but he had hurt her and her pride demanded vengeance.
Brittany seething now, clueless Bobby remarks, "What is the world are those lights all about?"
As Bobby got closer to the lights he realized they were the lights of a UFO. "OMG" Bobby thought. "What do I do now?" as he continued on with speed.
hahahaha what a way to twist the story nice one ^
Brittany screams, "It has a tractor beam, watch out, watch out!" Jessica giggles, "WOW look at the lights."
Jessica and Brittany could do nothing but stare in disbelief as Bobbys' car catches the tractor beam. Up he went into the space ship disappearing from sight. The other car stops just in the nick of time before he too is caught up in the light.
Bobby opens his eyes and sees....
But that was OK, because everything was blue thread, blue thread, blue thread...
Steve McQueen walked up at that point and demanded to know what was goin' on.
The alien pointed some sort of a lazer gun at Steve with its two strange, wart covered hands...
Meanwhile Brittany took out the rocket launcher she always kept in her car trunk and aimed it at the UFO thinking that she could kill Bobby and destroy the aliens together and become the hero who saved planet earth.
While Brittany took aim, the alien in the Corvette jacket caught her eye. The alien using telepathy asked her, "Is that really a 1954 vette?" She was flattered by the exchange.
Brittany did not realize she was being sidetracked by the aliens and all of a sudden she saw and felt an explosion and was blinded.
Knocked to the ground, she sat silently as coherent thought eluded her. Ringing in her ears was accompanied by the refrain from an obscure Manfred Mann song her mother used to sing on neighborhood karaoke nights.
Brittany's mother called, "Brittany, stop singing like a dying cow, your boyfriend Bobby is on the phone."
Brittany was suddenly reminded of the telepathtic exchange with the alien...
she had to find out more. She called out: "Tell him I'll call him back later, ( much later,") she thought...
"He had alien eyes, big and round,
Blinking lights above the ground.
Flying high, here then gone...
Away from her,
for oh too long..".
She scribbled out a poem on a scrap of paper she found in her purse...
"Yes, it is a 54 'Vette," she tried to send a telepathic message back to the alien wearing the Corvette jacket...
The alien, with his big, round eyes, looked at her lovingly. He secretly wanted her for his own.
The alien's eyes grew wider with a deep blue florescence glowing deeply. The alien then started humming the notes to "Love me Tender", then put the poem to the tune. All three women started to sway uncontrollably. Steve McQueen yelled, "Stop him, they are being hypnotized."
Steve's eyes stared into the alien's wide-eyed glare as if he was being pulled in by its piercing gaze. "That song! Why is it singing that song?" Steve's mouth opened slightly. "No way, it can't be. It's not possible!" Steve McQueen stood frozen in disbelief of what he just saw with his own wide-eyes.
"We came to view the 2054 Corvette!" called Wayne and Garth " Much respect and reverence to you Alien Wonders! Asteroid Ceres led us to you and the 2054 'vette! "
The Alien raised one of his white eye brows cresting a square shaped pink colored eye on his big round ball shaped head and simply raised his eight fingered hands towards the duo.
Confused by the strange and obviously inferior natures of these two humanoids, the aliens looked sternly at them and spoke: "You can come on board to observe our model from the future, if you can find two others to bring along who are more qualified specimens,
ah hem.... individuals."
Steve snapped out of his confusion with sudden clarity. He screamed "No, NO, don't listen to them they are trying to steal the 100th anniversary Corvette and they are coercing able mechanics to go back to their planet to maintain their collection of Corvettes!" He pleaded, "Don't you remember the movie about 'How to serve mankind', it was a cookbook."
Well, they won't eat them.... they'll make slaves out of them! (Right?)
Comprehending Steve's wisdom regarding the matter, Wayne and Garth went scurrying away escaping the strangely hypnotic lure of the pale aliens who posessed all sorts of peculiar and creepy features...
But, Brittany had been watching, while all this took place. As the SNL characters exited stage right, Brittany ran into the light... she called out, "Wait Good Sirs! May I see the anniversary model?
Steve scratched his head in confusion, he just experienced a senior moment. At least that's what he thought, maybe they had mind control working...Hummm.
Brittany decided she could acquire that 100th anniversary model. She knew could, if only...
if only she could get the alien to let her in the ship.
Brittany walked quickly to the spacecraft where the aliens were getting ready to board. But suddenly, she was swept up into the craft along with the two aliens... through some sort of magnetic force.
No longer concerned for her personal health or safety, she closed her eyes deciding internally that whatever the cost she would be the first human,(besides Steve McQueen), to see and handle the 2054 ice blue corvette.
The door locked shut with a jolt and the spacecraft blasted straight upward. Brittany looked sheepishly at the aliens... "Sorry guys, can you bring me back?"
"Well, we wanted more than one, but one will do...for now. We'll go back...in time." She would never forget the laughter that followed... their high pitched giggles and inward/ outward breaths escaping from creepy toothless grins. She was too scared to even cry, yet somehow, she still remained determined...
Suddenly something caught her attention... a figure in the corner in the dark.... The aliens left the room through star trek like doors. She stared at the figure who emerged as soon as the aliens glided out of the room...
It was Steve!
He held up a finger to his lips and said, "shhh..." But, she burst out " What? We cannot keep you a secret!" And then, in burst the Alien Captain. I see we actually have two specimens...I mean individuals!
"Where are we going?" Asked Steve.
Brittany couldn't believe they were stuck on an alien spacecraft going who knows where. And who were these strange looking beings who could somehow communicate with them... in English?
The Alien Captain answered Steve, "Altair."
"Where is that?" Steve asked.
"The outer edge of the Milky Way galaxy," replied Captain Orion.
"Do you speak English on Altair?" asked Brittany.
"Yes," Captain Orion affirmed.
"Tell us about Altair!" demanded Brittany. How will we get there and long will it take? Will we ever get back to earth? Steve was looking around to see if he could see the 2054 Corvette.
"Where's the ice blue Corvette?" he asked.
Captain Orion called all fellow aliens, who were not on post manning the ship, to gather around and hear the story of their great planet, Altair. Of course, it was a one world government planet, socialistic and ruled by evil dictators who lived to control the inhabitants.
Steve and Brittany listened to Captain Orion describe Altair. Marriage had been banned about a century ago. All alien children were given over as wards of the state when they were seven years of age. They were put into schools according to the dictates of the mother. After that, she would no longer know her offspring. Offspring that were not wanted or were deformed were drowned quietly and secretly by their mothers as soon as they were born.
Brittany was horrified.
"Where did you develop your ability to speak English?" Brittany inquired.
"In school, during my youth," Captain Orion explained. My mother wanted me to be a verbal information relayer and I was enrolled into the Interstellar Communication Division. I know the languages of many different planets. "
"And who teaches these languages?"
"Other captured aliens like yourselves."
"I assume you plan for us to teach English in the "Interstellar Communication Division" on Altair?" Steve asked astutely.
And any other Earth language you know, of course.
Brittany gulped hard.
"On Altair, we do not believe in anything we cannot prove. " Captain Orion continued.
"Such as God?" Brittany asked.
"Precisely. "
"You do not have religious holidays?"
"What are those?"
"Vacations?"
"No."
Free time?
"No."
"Do you read books in your spare time?" she continued.
"No. We only use computers."
Brittany looked at the group of cold and impersonal aliens. She and Steve had to get out of there and get back to earth.
Shortly thereafter, Steve figured out how to operate the flying Corvette. One night Steve and Brittany climbed into the ice blue 2054 Anniversary Model, opened the hatch and launched the flying car into space. Luckily they had been orbiting only 100 miles above the earth.
So, they flew to earth and landed in a cornfield in Nebraska, where they abandoned the Corvette. They walked to Omaha and took a Greyhound bus back to Hollywood. They never spoke of the 2054 ice blue Corvette or their trip to space in a UFO with very peculiar aliens... ever again.
The End
Was just the beginning of their adventure... (sorry I couldn't resist) Great idea ...thanks for a fun (for a change) forum post:)

Is it more important to develop characters first and then write a story around them or vice versa?
