Applied for a new adsense account, gave them the url for my website(hubpages) and got a temporary approval. It has been over a week now and still haven't heard a thing nor have ads started showing up on my website. Am I missing something??

Yes it may take you 6 months to get approved...in the ,meantime try and write more hubs and build your portfolio and even consider your own website
Not like that you should wait for 6month as your not from asian countries like India,china so you will get approved soon.I think you should have applied when you have good number of hubs as you have only 14.Google except more hub and more traffic from you.But dont worry you will get it in one or two days.
