“Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”

I have to disagree with Virginia on this one, genetics and environment being the two main culprits.

I can understand that. Don't you think the mind can control those?

The brain is hardware. The mind is software. Software can only work when the hardware does. Drop by YouTube and do a search for the word, "psychotic". Frankly, I declined to click on any of the links; but if that is what you must do in order to be convinced, then I guess you will have to do so.

The time we stop acknowledging the spirit, as a culture, we die. The spirit uses the mind to compute.

Am amendable to the concept of spirit. The spirit is what causes self-awareness of how the mind is working. Unfortunately, both require a physiologically functioning brain; otherwise, we could apply the same logic to a hockey puck.

I am having fun discussing this with you.  The brain is the switchboard that runs the body.

And we all know what happens when that switchboard goes haywire.

        The body doesn't function well.
