Why should it, if someone publishes rubbish, being long just makes it long rubbish. There are some guidlines that it would be wise to follow, one is, about 500 - 800 words, which is not too short, not too long.

Do-follow and No-follow backlinks affect our page ranking in google. Is there any relation to our hubscore here on Hubpages? I've been told that there is probably no affect on our hubscore in relation to our backlinks....
