No, You have to be really good to get to be one of those !
Well I don't know about 'really good' but I was a hubnugget twice. It was thrilling and my traffic to those hubs went up a bit. Nervously I awaited the big day of the results.
I came second from bottom both times.
This was a bit of a disappointment but to be fair to the other authors - they had written well about the topics - whereas my efforts consisted mainly of badly written misleading content.
Yes, I was a hubnugget once. I was really surprised and happy. It was a great welcoming experience. It inspired me to read the forums closely and continue to do quality work. It also made me feel much more a part of the community. I enjoyed watching the voting, too. :-) It made me really happy when I "won" the week. THRILLED, actually. I didn't really think of it as a competition, more as a good means of feedback for what readers were wanting. I just felt happy that I was on the right track. It was like reassurance that I should keep on keepin' on.
