Why doesn't HubPages have a messaging system so people can communicate in private?

It does, I think.  Just look on the person's profile that you want to contact...underneath their picture, it should say "Contact so and so".....Hope that helps

There is a system for that.  Just go to someones' profile page and click on the contact directly button to the right.

HubPages is not a social networking system.  They allow individuals the option of what sort of communications they wish to receive.  If a member wants to allow private communication, they will have the "contact" feature enabled on their profile.  If they don't want to be contacted directly by strangers, they have the option to disable that feature.

Hubpages does not have the ability, nor would I want it to do so.  This is not a networking site.  What you can do is contact someone by sending an email.  If you and that person really hit it off, you can message each other some other way, perhaps by using Yahoo Messenger or Facebook.  I hope Hubpages never installs a messaging system.  I don't like how sometimes a person will just pounce on me on Facebook or Myspace when they realize I am online.

They do.  All you have to do is hit "contact ~author's name~" and there you are.

This isn't a social networking site, this site is focused on content.  We do NOT want this to become a social networking site, as that would certainly de value our content.

I also have the question about this. sometimes if I want to discuss the comments with others, it is very unconvenient indeed.

Maybe it would be too heavy on the bandwidth.

Because they're smart.  I won't repeat the other few answers, I'll just say that it's for the good of the Hubbers.

It does, doesn't it?  I've sent private messages to people.  On a hubbers profile page, just under their photo, there's a button, with an envelope icon, that says 'Contact Lady Wordsmith' or whoever they are.   I use that.

    Linda.

Addendum:  Oh sorry!  When I came to answer this question it showed me no other answers, so I thought I was the first!!  I am now editing my answer, lol.  I find this way of messaging to be fine - it's fast enough.  You could always befriend a hubber on a social networking site if you wanted to chat to them more instantly.
