I believe you merely add 5 or more photos and a slideshow is automatically created.
Add 5 or more photos as thoughthole says and you get the option to create a slideshow it doesn't automatically appear.
I recently created a hub with multiple photos. When I published it, the slide show installed automatically.
It's a good feature for long hubs with multiple images. The slide show feature shows up in the first picture.
I think yor question is already answered. If you have more than 5 photos you have the option to select a slide show too.
