Why does the ranking under the avatar photo go down the longer you are on hubpages
You aren't pulling your oar hard enough. You have to keep slinging words at the search engine, day and night, to drive your score up. Get on LemmingFace and Twinker . . . send everyone on the net through your stall. Install a pay toilet and take credit cards. Now, you are on your way.
The number is an average of your hub scores. If you are writing hubs quickly and posting, it could be that your hub score has not had enough time to mature - they go up as readership increases, etc.
The other reason might be that you are not getting the traffic you need, or the quality of the hub is not as high as you would want.
The two ways to raise traffic are through backlinking and keywords. If you are not familiar with these terms, put either one in the HubPages search box at the top of the page; there are many good Hubs on the subject.
Good luck, and hope this helps.
I've discovered that user hubscore has less to do with traffic and more to do with contribution. I've hit the 100 cap many times and yet I'm barely squeaking by with over 100 views per day (on all 120 of my hubs combined). I notice the score go up when I respond to other hubs/questions/forum posts and even more so when I post a new hub. So as long as you're posting quality material to hubpages, you should be fine, but even with the best of efforts, the score is still going to fluctuate however it wants to.
I agree with M.T Dremer. Participating, asking and answering questions, voting and commenting on hubs, in my experience these things seem to raise hubber score. It's not your traffic or your hubs as far as I can tell. My hubber score is higher than any of my hub scores. I've been here 5 weeks, I have 16 hubs, 100 views would be a really good day for me. I got less than 20 pageviews today.
The system scores you based on your activity and a few other things. We find the the you can't do too much or the system may see you as overdoing it. The best thing is to moderate your actions. Don't spend too long a time on HP.
Just want to clarify and correct something John000 said. Your Hubber score, the number on your avatar, is NOT the average of the scores of your individual hubs. The number on your avatar is determined by the algorithm by an entirely different set of criteria.

Hi, I've been on Hubpages for a few months now, and I've published four hubs. I also try to take part in the forums (especially the Hubber's Hangout) and I leave comments on other people's Hubs as well as Hop Hubs.I've noticed that my score has never gotten into the 90's. Is it that I need to...

I am just curious, all 92 hubs of mine are featured. In your opinion, should one delete (although Featured) any hubs where the score on a particular hub has eventually dropped way down from when it was initially high at one point? Or would it be better to just unpublish and later...

I looked at my hub scores today and cried. They have been falling steadily for two weeks from 70's & 80's to 60's and 70's with one 59. Today, one of my hubs has fallen to a 50. HP is sending me mixed signals. I am told to write in a niche that I am passionate about with...

This system of hubber scoring is really disgusting. Hubbers posting hubs are assigned low hubber score for several reasons but hubbers without publishing a single hub are participating in forums and have hubber scores of >80. Is it enough to post a adult photograph in profile to get assigned a...

It is advantageous to delete one's own low scoring hubs that have little traffic. I figure getting rid of the low score would increase the average of the rest of one's hubs. What do you think?

Earlier I posted that people should go and make links going to other sites that do not belong to you nofollow. Then someone mentioned that if your hubber score is less than 85 then "every link" will be nofollow. But this is not what HubPages says. HubPages says:"If your HubberScore...
