Are views from social networking sites counted as external / organic traffic?
As the links to hubs are shared on most of these sites.
Views from social networking sites would count as externally-sourced traffic (internal is just from within HubPages.) Organic traffic is when somebody types a phrase into a search engine, clicks "search," sees a natural search result (title, description and website page link) and clicks that link to visit the page. So organically sourced traffic could also be viewed as externally-sourced traffic.
However, if somebody is on a social networking site searching for information about something, using a search bar and a phrase, and they find a link to HubPages on your social network profile or in a comment you left on that social network, perhaps that too could be viewed as somewhat organic traffic.
I think I would classify it as referral traffic, therefore external, but not organic.
Visits from social sites and basically any visit that comes from anywhere except a search engine is counted as a referral (referral traffic). Off course any visit labeled as internal is from this site (HubPages).

It is said that organic traffic (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) should be our goal for increasing and maintaining real traffic. I've read in the forums that we shouldn't become dependent upon getting a lot of HP traffic, nor discouraged if our hubs are not being read by the HP community. However, I've...

HubPages is considered a social networking sites, so views that come from it have less value than others. I am wondering if the same is true of the niche sites. Are they considered to be social networking sites also?
