For pure enjoyment and personal challenge!  I'm forcing myself into the unfamiliar territories of poetry and such.  Have never ventured there in my life.  Also, Hubpages affords me the benefit of creating and immediate critique.  Besides, there's a great bunch of people here!

Because I'm a middle aged geek who wants to share his opinions on useless subjects like horror movies and heavy metal music with the world at large.

I don't.  I write for my own pleasure and to improve my ability to make my thoughts and ideas clearly understood.  Or, to also write as to not allow the reader to misunderstand what I had to say.

Since I am not done with that task yet.I will probably have to add a few more Hubs here before they toast my bones.

Do we write for or on HubPages, or with HubPages? Perhaps a little of each.
I write here for pleasure, for the challenge, for an audience and lastly for financial gain!
HubPages offers the chance to write on any subject (within the terms set down of course), in any style, so gives equal chance for the novice or the expert to be published. This is a quite a freedom.
There are also opportunities to connect with, help and advise other writers, and on HubPages there are many very supportive people around who won't hesitate to give useful information. Beginners here can get lots of sound advice for even the simplest of questions. This is heartwarming.
The chance to have your work out there via HubPages is almost irresistible.

Initially I started writing because I thought that there was money to be made. But now I am more realistic about the earning potential of hubpages and only write for fun and to interact with other writers.

I write because I want to share my love for technology with as many people as possible.  I have always loved to talk to people about technology and then I realized that I could just write it and it would reach more people. I just find technology fascinating.
