One article from 50 views a day to 2,400 views a day.... overnight?

I just had one hub, which was averaging around 50 views a day, shoot up to 2,400 views a day, overnight.

My initial thought was that some high traffic site linked to my article, since I have heard of that happening before. But I checked and all that traffic is coming from google. Now I am REALLY confused!

How can I have that drastic of a swing on one article literally overnight and have it all be from google? Seems... illogical to me. Does that mean the traffic could drop back overnight too? I guess I don't expect any definitive answers here, but any thoughts would be appreciated!

In addition to what Lobobrandon said, your article may have touched on a topic that suddenly became popular aka  Stormy Daniels, the student walk for life, etc.  Without knowing the topic, it would be hard to tell...but just enjoy the ride!

When I first started with Flipboard I had one artcle get 10,00 views in just a few days, so you never know.

Across the board, on multiple websites, rankings are jumping like crazy on good quality sites. It is possible that your article increased in ranking and the traffic is the result of this. Good luck and I hope it stays.

Thank you guys for the thoughts! I sometimes fall into the trap of wanting an explanation for everything.

However, I DID find an explanation for this finally...

The article in question is on a separate HubPages account I have and it is a review of a certain type of cosmetic. While I had hoped that little tweaks I made recently to the article had just finally gotten indexed and shot to the top of Google's rankings... it appears that wasn't the case.

Apparently a rather big name celebrity recently mentioned using this product I reviewed which caused the traffic to spike an insane amount. Now the views are already falling off :-(  This one will be short lived I'm affraid.

So very cool. Congrats on hitting the jackpot, no matter how short lived.

Thank you! It has already dropped to 300 views in 24 hours. Oh well! It was exciting for a bit there.

Still sounds great though. I am happy you got the extra views. I wrote about a few subjects that I speculated might get more popular in the future. I guess I will find out.
