What are some other ways to monetize hubs in addition to amazon products and ads? These don't seem to be earning much.
None that I'm aware of. But it's all a numbers game - the ads should be producing about $5 for every 1,000 impressions, give or take - it is pretty variable, and of course you only get 60% of the impressions.
Ok, so the question should then be: how to get more ad impressions? I'm having trouble getting a few views and impressions per day
Write more hubs. Write articles that answer readers' problems.
I was told that recipes aren't very useful to readers, so I need to find something else to write about. I'm thinking of traveling or languages, but i don't know if anyone would want to read about that.
No, recipes are not very good because people prefer to use sites where there are many gathered together in logical collections, like the BBC Good Food site or AllRecipes.
You need to learn how to do keyword research. The easiest way to do it is to take a topic and type it into Google. Don't press enter or search. So for example, type 'tight shoes'. You'll see a list pop up. I bet there's an article title suggestion right there. All you have to do is research it and write it so that it address the problem/question/topic.
Anyway, while you're there, now press search. A little way down the page there is a list of "People also ask..." More suggestions there.
Now scroll to the bottom and you'll see yet another list of related searches. Couldn't be easier.
To be earning decent money on HubPages you need a lot more articles than you have. It's a long term thing. I think I started getting payout every month once I had reached 60-75. Of course, it depends on how popular your articles are. For instance one of mine gets more traffic than 50 of the others combined. You just never know how it will go.
Hope that helps.
It takes a long time and many hubs before you can start earning decent money here...and the hubs must be on topics that people want to read and that have not been saturated already...such as things like Breast Cancer or traveling to really popular places. You need to write about what you know and know enough about to produce at least 1000 words. Once people start reading, you'll start earning.

I tend to use photos of Amazon products from the product's page when I'm promoting them on an article and just credit them to Amazon. This probably isn't such a good idea, but if the product is being promoted would they mind I wonder? The complication of course is the seller on Amazon might not own...

I always use Amazon ads as I figure the more advertising the better to a point. Placement is questionable, though. I'm not real happy with a string of ads flushed to the right, although that's what I nearly always do. They are smaller and the text capsule is narrow, which I don't...

I wrote a recipe hub and wanted to add some recommended cookbooks at the end. I created an Amazon capsule and selected the cookbooks. When I previewed the capsule, it said "No Amazon products found." I deleted it and tried again, this time letting it use keywords to select products...

Ok, here it is. Hubpages edited some of my hubs to "make them better" so they can be featured and moved to vertical sites. If I undo their "corrections" I risk having that hub removed from the featured status. When I have reviewed their "corrections"...
