If you're here to post your poetry and creative writing you'll struggle to make any real money, if that's what you're intending. What you need to do to make money is write articles that show off your expertise and knowledge, that show people 'how to' do things. Over time, if you create good quality articles you might start making a bit of cash IF you can get your work onto the niche sites.
Start off by learning from and perhaps following writers who are successful. Go to the LEARNING CENTER as raggededge suggested and once everything is in place you're ready to create your first article.
It can take time, so don't be disheartened and definitely don't expect quick results.
      Best of luck.

There has to be a formula?

It's not about ads, it's about your writing. Write top quality articles about things that readers are looking for and the ads will take care of themselves. Poetry won't do it. They should be at least 1,000 words.

And you'll need a lot more than two articles.

You can always write articles about poetry, how different poems can be analyzed and interpreted, Learning to write poetry etc.  A bit more difficult to do but possible would be to write articles that you could incorporate one of poems in.  So if you write a particular style of poetry you could first write an article about that type, how to write one of that type or something else related and then include your poem as an example.  If you really want to do it, you can usually find a way, it just takes being creative.  Do some research on what people are asking about poetry then hone in on those topics.  Good luck and welcome.

Great advice. There is a tremendous amount of information about poetry and some easy jump start formulas you can share with readers, so they can learn how to write their own poems. I googled "easy ways to write poetry" and came up with a couple of typical how-to sites and some interesting sites.
