What happened with the plan of choosing certain writers to become "mavens?" I haven't heard anything about that for a long time. Did anyone become a maven and, if so, what does that mean? How is it working out for you?

Given that the terms were opaque, I suspect few to none attempted it.

Some were approached at the conference.  Others could apply when they opened it up for those with websites but given the requirement that they post daily I'm not sure how many did so.

Yeah! I passed on the opportunity just because of the logistics of being a daily writer means a scheduling nightmare to me.
I would love to contribute weekly or twice a week, but otherwise, with a daily deadline, I may as well get myself on a newspaper or an other site that pays full time writer more.DON

In fact, it's on my quotes page. If you want credit, you got it.

I recall them talking about two phases: 1) invitations for those with existing websites and a lot of followers and 2) invitations for others who fit a certain need. I don't remember phase 2 happening but, perhaps, it did. It's just rather strange that nobody has said a peep about their experience as a maven.

Even though they said that those who moved to Maven would still be publishing on here and two that I remember said they'd still be part of this community those I know of are just plain gone.  Though with a daily publishing schedule they wouldn't likely have time to continue to write here as well.
