How long should I wait before changing the titles on my hubs to try to get more traffic.  I read in one place I should wait 2 months.

Not sure where you read that, but if you feel that you need to change the title of you hub, by all means do it.  I've changed titles, sometimes multiple times, and traffic has increased.

That is a reasonable time to judge how traffic is affected. If you change it too often the new title will not be indexed long enough to even give you resonable data.
Before you change your titles, you should also do some reading on how to use power words for better click rate.

Thank you for your comment.  I have already read one hub article.  Will read another couple before changing any.

Even if you change the title, the url won't change.  It is better to choose a good title and stick with it except for minor corrections.

The advice to stick with the title is contrary to everything I have ever read. Do you have a reference/source of someone who has actually tried this?

The advice is because if the title ends up completely different from the url (as it will on Hubpages) your visitors are going to get confused.  Also just randomly changing the title for SEO reasons will work this week and not next week. If it's not about content quality it's not sustainable in the search ecosystem.

I always write my URLs different than my titles. As far as I can tell it is not confusing.
I agree with you that some changes will only work for awhile, then a title may need to changed back to the original, or, alternatively, something even better.
I am not so sure the search engines can even tell about quality content. Sometimes I will do a search and find really crappy stuff at the top, and underneath is actually a quality article.

That's true about the crappy stuff often being at the top. Do sites pay Google to be at the top of SERPS, I wonder? (Not that they'd admit it).

psycheskinner, It will not be confusing if you make your URLs more general. I do the same as DrMark. When I publish a new hub I always change the URL to be less specific, to allow for title changes in the future. That's the only time you can change the URL -- before publishing.

Then every three months or so, I review the keywords people have been using in search and I decide of any title changes are required to improve SEO.

I usually wait one to two months too. Unless it's a very obvious mistake.

I usually wait one to two months as well, unless I made a typing error or something (then I change it immediately).

I change titles and all is better in rankings. I change them after two months.

Thank you all for yoour feedback.  I guess I am a little impatient on that point. But I guess I understand a little on why to wait.
