I just can't see what is wrong with it.
Thanks.
The wording is too steeped in Zodiac terminology. You have to understand Zodiac ideas quite a bit before you can follow the thought. I read the first paragraph and was lost, could not follow it. If you want to write for the general public, you need to break it down into smaller ideas and explain them in more detail.
I read the first paragraph. There are no words that are not explained. I mention life energy (chi, qi). These are words that are well known by most people. That's especially so if one has acupuncture or uses Traditional Chinese Medicine.
That said, I have added an introductory paragraph, and I think that makes a difference. Do you think that is better?
Most people have never used acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine. Those two things are of the minority counterculture. Most people have no idea what chi of qi means.
That is really strange. I have never met anyone who doesn't know what acupuncture is or who hasn't heard of the Chinese Zodiac. If you listen to the TED talk on the Chinese Zodiac, you will see that something like half the world's population confers with it.
I'm flabbergasted.
I have always had tremendous response from my articles on Chinese astrology. When I was at hubpages the first time, my hubs on Chinese astrology used to draw 5,000 views PER DAY. Just from that, at that time, I was earning betwen $300 and $600 per month.
However, that is not like that anymore because I no longer write about those things, and other people have taken my place.
My current hub on Chinese rising signs draws regular traffic..
I don't know what to say. These things are general knowledge.
Tess, you have asked for feedback. Doneta has kindly offered her viewpoint, but yet again you disagree with the review offered.
Of course you can disagree, but if you don't want to read the views of others, then don't ask for them.
This is why I never respond to your requests any more.
The reason it 'wasn't working I.e. there were no views, was that HP hadn't updated their views for 5 or 6 hours. As soon as they updated, I discovered it was working just fine.
There is nothing wrong with the language used. It is clearly explained. I use the same language in other hubs, and they get traffic.
I think that we have different ways of problem solving.
The scientific method of looking at a problem is to eliminate anything that isn't the problem. I had valid reasons for thinking that the problem had nothing to do with my choice of language. Therefore I eliminated that.
I don't understand why I can't eliminate something that I don't think is the problem. I'm not rejecting the person presenting it. I'm just saying, "That's not it." The faster all the things that are not the problem are eliminated, the sooner one gets to the real issue.
This is the way one approaches all problem solving.
Tess,
I am well versed in tropical astrology, and I perfectly understood your first few paragraphs. I think the audience is lazy and some of them don't like to read too many facts. I break up many of my more complicated astrology articles or metaphysical ones with a lot of pictures, although it looks like you did that as well. I believe your writing is above the average person's head. I've found I've had to write in simpler terms on some articles, people don't want to think, they want to be spoon fed.
Thank you for your kind words, Jean. They are truly appreciated.
Okay, I'm not talking specifically about your hub, but about you dismissing Doneta's suggestion. She's trying to do you a favour by explaining how it appears to her. If you don't think she's correct, then just let it go. You don't have to argue or tell her you're 'flabbergasted'. It puts people off if they feel the time given to reading the article and then commenting is wasted. They feel dismissed and as though their opinion is worthless.
She said she didnt' read beyond the first paragraph.
And, yes, you're right to some extent.
There are two ways of responding to people.
The first is in trying to appease them emotionally and make them feel wanted. The second is to just respond to the issue and deal with it.
I find it really, really difficult not to just look at the input and evaluate it. I have thought about it many times. I feel bad when I allow people to think that what they said to me was useful when it was not. it's as if I am downgrading myself.
It's as if in order to get others to not be nasty to me, I cannot be honest, and I have to accept things they say about me and what I produce (even when it's not accurate) just to get them not to attack me.
So I have to live a sort of dishonest life - pretend to be grateful for something I'm not grateful for at all.
I understand that this view is the result of a number of factors - extreme trauma for most of my life, being on the autistic spectrum (auditory processing disorder), and being an INTJ.
Understanding all that doesn't make it easier for me to thank someone for their efforts when their efforts were not helpful
I'm sorry.
I know other people do this with ease.
I find it difficult.
I am truly sorry.
Tess, you don't have to appease or be grateful beyond merely saying, "Thanks for taking a look and for your suggestions." That's all. Nothing more required.
No one attacked you, far from it. You asked for help and Doneta tried to explain that she thought it was a bit complex.
You don't need to be sorry, I do understand why you respond in that way, I'm just trying to explain that people can be put off. Maybe wait a little, think it through, and then, if the suggestions don't work for you, use the phrase above?
Okay. Can I ask you to assist me to get to that place. Somebody did on facebook, and I've learnt to not post things that are upsettiing. But it took about six months to learn it. When I post something, just keep an eye out, and the moment you think I'm going to say something not acceptable, just drop me a line. It might be easy for you to adapt to things as people say them. I can give you a 100% guarantee, it's been a very painful and on-going experience for me. Thank you.
Well, I can try. It's not that your posts are upsetting, more like they are a little abrasive and defensive.
I like straight talkers because I am one. I don't pander to those who expect tons of praise if they write crap. You don't write crap, you are a competent writer. If you find yourself defending vehemently, take a step back and try to work out if the person is actually attacking your writing or making a suggestion. And like I said, all you have to do, if you don't want to implement their advice, is thank them for taking a look and then carry on as usual.
Edit: I am glad that you have taken this in the best way and that you are willing to adjust your responses
Those who know me know that I always adjust and do my best. I just find some things very difficult. Some of it is the result of repeated bad experience and resentment/anger (which is slowly receding). The rest is just impatience, lack of thought, etc.
When I'm reminded a few time consistently, I eventually get it.

I'm a Cancer, so why don't I have Cancerian traits?- I'm extremely sensitive! Most Scorpios and Sagittarius' are very attracted to me. And last, I'm a dragon in Chinese astrology. What does it all mean? - put it together for me....

More and more, forum users are telling people that they do not have the required skills to write on Hubpages.Others, seem to believe there is a duty to defend the website's borders against incursions from the foreign hordes. In this case, "foreign" seems to involve anyone or...

Hi there,I was preparing a hub for publishing. After I finished my article, it has slightly more than 2000 words in total. So my question is, whether this article has the potential for getting more traffic or not?
by James 7 years ago
I am hoping the Hub staff read this. I get so frustrated when my article does not pass after tryingeverything I can think of to fix the problem. It could be as simple as changing the photo but instead I am re-writing my article, cutting out good stuff that might lower the quality, when nothing is...

Are there not even honest robots.

This seems to be a recurring issue with editorial corrections. The Editbot wants to replace the word "and" with the word "to." This doesn't work in every case. Here's an example.Someone commented on my hub about emus, "You gave it a try and learned a lesson." The bot...
