I logged on today and noticed a copyright symbol next to one of my hubs. I looked at it and there were 49 different websites listed, and none of them have any DMCA information available. The ones that I looked at seem to have posts about random games with bizarre uses of language, like everything is paraphrased, and the basic idea and structure of my hub is there, but the words are all flipped around. Is this still something I should file over? How do I file a DMCA without any information, and will I get in trouble if they don't match exactly? And how did that many websites copy my content overnight when I don't even have that many views? This is horrible.

I am wondering if the point is to get a visit to some of those sites from you, the writer. How that could pay I do not know. Malware installation? I know it seems paranoid but I wouldn't click anything if you do visit,

I have seen my articles copied and when I visit the site I get a captcha. It is possible that the captcha is real, it is possible that it is a trap.

I haven't noticed anything wrong with my computer, and I have Norton, so hopefully things are good there. Gonna run an antivirus check now, thanks for pointing that out.

You should file DMCA complaints to remove the content. I looked up a few of the sites and a lot of them are registered with a company called NameSilo. Here is their abuse form. Select "copyright violation" for the type of report. You can use a whois to look up the abuse email for sites not registered with NameSilo. You can also file a complaint with Google. This does not remove the content from the web, but it will remove it from search results.

Google is pretty good about ranking the original first, so do check that. I have had this problem before many a time; because of Google, I am not that overly concerned. In fact, the thieves these days are pretty much wasting their time. The real nightmare is when you want to transfer one of your articles, then cleaning up all the stolen copies is a real nightmare.

    Might not be malware orientated.

10 years ago, spun pages were all about creating backlinks. Spin a hundred pages and throw a backlink into each and Google was fooled into thinking the links were legitimate. Many links pointing to a page gave it a boost in the SERP's.

Google isn't fooled these days but maybe other search engines are (in China or whatever).

It might also be that some "SEO" company is selling false hope to people who know no better by providing thousands of backlinks.

You can report sites filled with gobbledygook to Google. https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2010/ … -spam.html
