Here are a few articles from WeHaveKids that cover free educational resources for children, ideas for engaging activities for a variety of ages, and fun games to help connect distant family members.

This author, who is a teacher and educational technology integrator, discusses 10 great websites (and one bonus app) to help your kids learn and practice reading. These websites feature catchy songs and interactive games that turn learning into play—and they're all free to use.

This list of activities for kids to do at home has a unique focus: All of the activities are not only fun and educational but also time-consuming! They're designed to hold your kids' attention for several hours. Why not try making a Rube Goldberg machine out of common household items or building a whole town out of cardboard boxes?

We're all dealing with stress these days, and that includes the youngest members of your household. In this article, a former preschool and kindergarten teacher suggests  10 activities that are soothing for kids aged 3–5. These include sensory activities like playing with playdough and shaving cream, plus activities that encourage kids to express what they're feeling via puppets and stories.

If you have grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or any type of kid in your life whom you can't see in person due to social distancing, video chat is a great way to connect. You can make these video chats more engaging by playing games together. This author shares several fun and funny games that she and her grandkids play over FaceTime.

My kids are grown up. Does being stuck inside with the dogs count?

Since we are all home all day right now, I signed up to be a rescue dog foster. This is a win-win because the dogs keep the kids entertained and the kids keep the dogs entertained!

I'm thinking of getting a large aquarium. First I'll put a bunch of large fish in it. Then I won't feed them. Then I'll put a bunch of small fish in it. Then I'll stand back and see what happens.

S&F... excellent idea with the dogs and kids. Shelters can certainly use the help (and the foster families are likely to adopt many of them). If you are not planning to keep them make sure the kids understand that you are just "babysitting".
Para: ... and of course you can always eat the large fish eventually.

Nah. After the large fish and small fish have finished their discussions...

      1. Place the shallow, open-topped aquarium on floor.
      2. Set up video camera.
      3. Find some cats.
      4. Collect revenue from YouTube for next 10 years.

To get this thread back on track, I'd also round up kids along with the cats and charge them $5/each admission. Problem is I'd have more crowd than could handle; kind of scary about hat state of affairs; what with general IQ population level these days (actually same throughout history). Want knowledge? Try this: "kids covid site:.gov" on search engines.

A distasteful, but necessary link. Parents need to know.
