I know that there is a forum section dedicated to getting help with improving your hub... I was wondering if there's also a forum where it would be acceptable to post my own new blog to get some tips and feedback... is that allowed here?

      Hi Janisa,

The only place you can link to your personal site is to edit your bio and place the link in the appropriate box.

There is no forum here for self-promotion. We can't even link to our own HubPages articles in the forum unless it is for feedback and help.

        Hi,
        thanks for the info.
I already added it to my profile, but I was wondering if there's a way to ask for feedback about my new blog

There isn't, but now I can go to your profile, click on the link and give you some feedback here.

It's on Wordpress which is a great choice. You need to add a Privacy page (Google will penalise you if you don't).   There are plenty of standard templates available.  It's also worth adding an "About Me" page (and put a larger photo there, instead of on the Home page).

I would think twice about the theme.    Some sites have mainly informational pages and the blog is a subsidiary thing.  They would use a static home page, like the one you've chosen.  Your blog posts are your primary focus, so you should choose a theme that displays your blog posts on the home page.  If you add an image to each blog post, you'll find there are lots of attractive themes.  Google will like it much better, because you'll have more useful content on your home page.

If you do that, then you don't need a separate 'blog" link in your menu, because the Home page is your blog.  As your blog grows, you will need a Categories or Subjects menu of some kind.

There's no point having massive "follow on instagram" or "follow on Facebook" links at the top of your home page, because a new person, arriving at your home page, doesn't know anything about you yet, so why would they want to follow you?  Put your "follow" links where they'll be seen on your blog posts instead - then someone who enjoys your posts will be motivated to follow.

One more tip - consider starting a Youtube channel.  It's not easy making money on Youtube but that's not what I'm suggesting.

Make a short video for each blog post. Post the video to Youtube.  Then embed the video link in your blog post.  Refer Youtube viewers to your blog.
