Linking to Own Hubs and the Hubs of Others

I mentioned before that I was on hiatus from writing here for a long time...  there's so much I have forgotten, including, whether or not there is any reason not to link to my own hubs FROM my own hub(s). Logic and reason tells me not to do too much of that, because self promotion is somewhat ugly when exclusive. However, some of my articles nowadays are designed to support each other, and even so I want to use links to the hubs of others to keep things kosher.

Can I link to my own hubs when contextually appropriate, or is there a reason not to--and also, can I link to the hubs of others in the same way?

Yes, you can link to your articles/those of other users if they are contextually appropriate. But if the article you are adding links to is on a Network Site, you can't link back to articles on HubPages.

Samantha, does the fact we can't link back to articles on HubPages complicate things in any way? For example, does it mean that articles linked to other HubPages articles are less likely to be selected for niche sites? or does it mean that if they are selected that links to HubPages have to be removed?

I think links to HubPages would be removed.

The best approach is simply, don't link to any articles on HubPages.com.  Google does not like HubPages.com (which is why the company is just using it as a "slush pile" now), so you are damaging your Hubs by linking to anything that's on the old site.

Oh dear. Well now I need to ask more questions in order to know how to proceed. I am not talented enough to have all my articles moved to niche sites yet. Maybe one day, lol. So how does that work, as it relates to what I am working on now... I had one mega huge article, and as you suggested on another thread, I am breaking it down into smaller articles, that really support each other well... you are suggesting to post them, then, as stand alone articles, period... not bother to interlink them at all? or... or what?

You will need to wait and see whether the articles get picked up for a niche site (which can take up to a month).  They will likely start out on Discover, by the way, but that's not a niche site either.

If they are moved to a niche site, at that point you can edit them and interlink them.  If one or more of them doesn't make it to the niche site, you'll have to improve it and submit it manually.

By the way, I don't advise making them any shorter than 1,500 words each.

                Okay, thanks for the clarity.
