Hi, after a few years away I am back on HP working on my articles. For the life of me I cannot understand how the featured article process works. I am within the number of amazon modules per word count, but it still won't feature. On one hub I had an amazon module of a dog cake pan I personally used because I had a photo of the cake and how I made it in the hub itself. Yet they removed it. On another hub Hubpages edited the few amazon modules I had into text amazon links and it is featured. It seems their QAP process it a bit all over the place. I find it funny they remove or won't feature an article with a few amazon modules which pertain to the content on the hub, yet there are so many google ads on our pages that it is frustrating and difficult to even load/read the content. As a web surfer, I'd much rather see a few affiliate modules then be having to play around closing google ads just to read the page. Just my 2 cents.
Amazon okay on this hub (featured) https://holidappy.com/party-planning/Movie-Night-Party
Amazon removed from this hub (featured) https://holidappy.com/party-planning/Ho … hday-Party
Question, is it even worth it to play around and strip my hubs of all amazon modules to be featured? Does being featured help a lot with traffic? Right now I get a good amount of traffic from Pinterest so it is nice to have the amazon modules to make a few bucks.
It is pretty much a crucial piece of the puzzle to be featured on a niche site if earnings are what you are after, unless you have a dedicated fanbase.
As for going back and stripping your articles of the modules, I'd say yes so long as they are getting consistent traffic. If they are dead then there is probably little chance that stripping them down would make much of a change as far as traffic, but you never know, Google might raise your rank.
Your stance about ads made me chuckle, and I second it.
Being featured is pointless to be honest. You need to be on a niche site if you want search engine traffic. If you rely on Pinterest then it does not really matter.
Amazon capsules are now frowned upon and in-text links are what they prefer to see. So do not be surprised if they convert them. If the editor is lazy I can imagine them just removing the capsule for it to be featured.
I agree about the flood of ads. An amazon capsule is not as intrusive as some of the ads, yet the problem with capsules. I personally find text-based amazon links to work better and that was the case on average across the site. Of course, there are going to be people who did better with capsules. I can imagine Pinterest views result in better conversions from capsules than text.
It's nice to see you after a long time.
We only earn 1% on Amazon ads now, so don't feel too bad about dropping them, unless you are selling diamond encrusted 18 Karat cake pans.
I know right - having said that I just got a 2 digit commission from a purchase completely unrelated to one of my hubs. They will probably return it in a month. lol
Diamond encrusted 18 karat dog collars, anyone? Now all I need to do is write something about those!
If only we could have affiliate links to Neiman Marcus and Saks....Diamond encrusted toothpicks.
Yeah, I saw one of those $345,000 geegaws on Instagram this morning. I could make do with 1% of that, even if it only happened once or twice a year.
If I remember correctly, HP moved away from the use of Amazon capsules because they didn't appear when readers used ad blocking software. So HP moved to text links. They also have a limit on the number of Amazon links you can have in your articles depending on the word count. The longer the article, the more links you are allowed to have.
I didn't know that ^^ THX. I usually prefer links anyway, but in some cases the AZ image begs to be included. Still lately am getting the impression that having any links at all will be a roadblock.
Hi everyone, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate the feedback. As you can see I joined HP 13 years ago, cannot believe it has been that long! I still earn some money here so I do see potential and want to polish up my pages. I also have a 100 pages Wizzley and have my own blogs all of which I had stepped back from over the last few years. So there is a lot of work to be done! Thanks again.

Hi there folks,I'm really upset. I've been going through my articles, some of which date back to 2010 and the good old Squidoo days. The editing on my pages and the automatic removal of my Amazon capsules is out of control. The products are relevant. I use them personally to create the items...

Why is it that excessive links to Amazon products seem to be permitted when they are added to the body of hub rather than as a Module on the side? In my naivety, I did not realise that this was permitted. Will these links survive when hubs are selected and moved to the niche sites?

First off, my hubs are transferred from Squidoo, and I am aware of various issues there. I'd already checked and edited hubs after the transition, so this is all post transfer. What I don't understand is why some of my hubs get unfeatured after I've edited them? One even got...

Every time I put an Amazon capsule on my articles it gets snipped. I write how it benefits people and how it relates to the article.

I understand the rationale for removing amazon capsules. I'm very careful not to include amazon capsules unless they are 100% relevant, and I can provide a personal opinion. I rarely do more than one per hub.HP is not only snipping amazon capsules on hubs for niche sites, but also just to have a...
