The Ads on WeHaveKids Are Out of Control

Guys! I was doing research for my podcast and one of my own articles came up in the SERPs. I love when this happens. What I didn't love is that as soon as I clicked the article (because I was like...wait, did I write this?) my computer froze up. There were like four ads and a the HP intro video going all at once and my lil' netbook just couldn't handle it. I bounced out as soon as I could so I didn't lose my other work.

This is so disappointing to me. I've worked really hard to create content here for over a decade now and treated it like a job - I would literally clock in for myself. Traffic lately has been so dismal, it's been discouraging, but after experiencing HubPages out in the wild I can see why! Even I don't want to click on HP niche sites anymore because I'm afraid of how badly it'll screw up my browsing experience. I'm all for ads and the revenue we get from them - I never skip a YouTube ad or turn on an adblocker, I want to support other creators but the ads on here make it hard.

Is there any plan to address the technical issues with the ads? I couldn't even screenshot it because while WeHaveKids was up I couldn't open any other programs/tabs.

Again, I can't express how disappointing this is when I've invested so much time into building content and income here just to see the ads being so poorly managed for such an extended period of time (I know this isn't a new issue).

I understand where you're coming from. When you've put so much time into creating high quality articles it's disheartening to see the work undermined by excessive and annoying ads. We shouldn't forget the work put in by the HP editors too. My traffic is holding up despite the mergers and takeovers and pandemic etc etc but like you as a veteran I feel that HP isn't doing itself justice and could do a whole lot more for its  writers.
Let's hope the tech guys are teaming up to have a thorough review of ads versus traffic. We need a new approach to the commercial side of things. They're supposed to be busy looking into this issue, as Jodah noted, so we can only wait for the news, and prod them occasionally. I get the feeling that not much will happen in the short term what with Christmas and New year coming up. Late january 2022 would be a good time for a new ads regime to start up.

This is part of a reply from Hub Pages on another forum: Commenting is Live on AxleAddict!

" For those of you who have identified ads as another serious issue with user experience on HubPages, please know that this issue is at the top of our agenda, right alongside commenting. We are aware that the current ad experience is undesirable and are working on new potential layouts that will maintain author and site earnings while improving the reader experience."

There is nothing more important than improving the reader experience regarding ads.  "Comments" is of zero consequence, if the readers cannot tolerate getting to the middle, much less bottom, of an article.

Absolutely right. Comments are not nearly as big a deal as the site design issues.

Too many ads, that awful video at the top, and too many unrelated links make for a terrible reader experience. If traffic is dropping, and I know mine has, it is a good bet this is the reason.
