Medium Article Outranking Feltmagnet

If you have any articles duplicated on Medium, originally published on Hubpages network sites, have you noticed that they're outranking the Hubpages versions? I notice this is happening for a Feltmagnet guide, even though I've added the canonical link. The Feltmagnet one doesn't even rank in the first 129 results for its title.

I've noticed over the past 12 months that several HP articles, which appeared on Google's first page for years, have sunk into oblivion. As has my traffic. And yes, they've been updated.

I'll need to check the Medium articles. TBH, I think there's only one or two that are still also on HP.

Well for me, even though  I'm new here, my HP articles  are doing better than my Medium articles.

Overall, my HP articles tend to do far better than their Medium copies with Google, certainly in the mid to long term, even during this current period when HP isn't doing great.

Of course, one doesn't want the Medium copies to do better, as earnings from external readers there are non-existent.

I have one Medium article that gets about 40 Google views/day, but that's pretty exceptional (plus this one was an original not a copy). It's kind of a waste getting Google views on Medium, so I wish I'd posted it on HP in some ways.

The only use of Google views on Medium would be selling products via Amazon links, as far as I can see, but I've not really explored that.

Well this is interesting. When I view the "similar results", the Feltmagnet page appears in SERPS. So does this mean that it's not a good idea to use the same title on both versions? I thought the canonical link took care of that and the original was listed first.

I've found several more Hubpages articles that Google no longer lists in SERPS when I search for text from them. They're classifying the Hubpages content as "similar results". So it seems this canonical link thing just doesn't work. So probably time to start deleting Medium guides.

I checked and I don't seem to have the problems that you have. I use the import button to duplicate in Medium, then tidy article up a little. It seems to work fine for me?

Typically, my Medium articles don't rank that well and don't outcompete their HP equivalents. Exceptions don't seem common.

Whether it's generally worth posting on both sites is the more pertinent question for me. If something earns much less than a dollar on Medium and then dies, it's questionable whether it's even worth it. But that's a separate issue.
