Following on from a previous post, this might be just a passing trend by Google for guide type articles, but I notice they're doing this gallery thing with images, so it might be a good idea to use lots of photos in articles.

Great info, Eugene. I know when I Google something, I prefer to see photos or even videos, depending on what it is I'm looking for.

When using your own photos, be sure to go into the photo's properties to add your name and even a snippet from the article you post it in. This helps with search engine visibility as well. I actually wrote an article about this topic back in 2014.

Quality photos are a powerful tool. I always try to use my own rather than pull from sites that offer royalty-free shots.

Interesting. I just had an edit done on one of my Owlcation articles. The editor took out three photos—the other minimal modifications, like a comma here or deleting a comma there. The three photo removals were the most significant change.
The photos were fluff, so I thought it made sense. In other words, the images didn't add to the article.
Some of the images you posted have some obvious use.

I notice on the weeds screen shot, the list of weeds got screwed up at number 6, text being read from the "Read more" section in the article.

And also videos. From analyzing engagement on my HP articles on  Google Analytics, I see people are spending quality time watching YouTube videos that I have embedded in my articles.
