Before I begin, let me give you a bit of background. My given name is Shauna. Where does Bravewarrior fit? I'll get into that in a bit, but first let me fill you in on my career as a writer.

My professional writing career began in the early 1980s as a copywriter for the local South Florida area. I attended Brown Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, earning my certification and FCC license in radio/television broadcasting. A local TV production house was in need of a copywriter and turned to Brown Institute for the placement program they offered students. I was recommended and hired on the spot. I not only acted as copywriter but assisted in the production of all the TV commercials I wrote. The commercials, written for various local businesses and the Miccosukee Tribe, were aired on local network affiliate stations. The production house later went out of business and I moved on to an advertising agency, also located in Ft. Lauderdale. The agency specialized in the banking and auto industries, with TV, radio, and print ads distributed nationwide. I was one of two copywriters and also supervised the audio sessions for TV and radio spots.

After a few years in the business, happenstance came to visit and beckoned me to re-enter the world of construction accounting. During this time I married, had a son and raised my family. I continued to write poetry during my hiatus. I knew I had a talent that begged to be nurtured when several of my original poems were published in various anthologies. It was apparent to me that I would one day return to writing full time. In early 2011, I began writing weekly Green Tips for my employer's website. This rekindled my passion for creative writing and I've been writing ever since. In fact, my passion for the written word burned so fiercely that I quit my job as accounting manager in September of 2012 and formed my own one-woman freelance business.

However, I’d never had to market myself in the past, nor do I like marketing. Having no marketing skills brought my dream to a close and I returned to the workforce in January 2016. But that’s okay. My muse prefers to fly freely in the pleasure of writing without the pressure of meeting overhead expenses.

Now, back to:

Why Do I Call Myself Bravewarrior?

Actually, Bravewarrior was born of my imagination when I was nine years old. I’d play in the empty lot across the street from our house in Philadelphia, which was heavy with blackberry bushes. I’d squish the berries and paint them on my face as Chief Bravewarrior or make dinner with them as a Cherokee squaw. The extended version of how I became Bravewarrior is posted here on HubPages.

When I began writing again in 2011, I chose Bravewarrior as my pen name. It not only speaks of my imagination, but my personality. Nothing gets me down for long; I always overcome whatever life throws my way and have the strength to travel down new roads looking for life’s next story.

I hope you'll join me on this wonderful journey.

Peace,

Bravewarrior
