What are the chances that the Hubpages page would go back to its original design? Compared to the Niche Sites, it has a nicer design. Its text is green. Research has shown that the colors blue and green can lower stress levels, thus Facebook and Twitter are blue to help people lower their stress levels while reading. In addition, the layout of the original HP page is better organized than that of Niche Sites.
Probably slim to zero. Since the other TAG sites use the new layout, having two systems as regards ads and maintenance could be a problem. Possibly site maintenance across all sites is carried out by shared IT staff resources. I notice the new layout doesn't work properly in Firefox on Windows Vista and looks awful when I checked it on my old laptop. H2 titles aren't rendered properly and look smaller than paragraph text.
How I wish it was possible, Eric. The old layout was so much better before they switched to the Maven/TAG platform. I guess they still have the old layout for author view and edit mode so they probably could if they wanted, but it would just be too much work and it would be admitting they got it all wrong.
What does "original design" mean? I'm guessing you mean the last design HP had before Maven?
Didn't HP go through lots of different designs before that, though? I joined in 2011 and saw more than one, I believe.
You had me checking the Wayback Machine!
I think the internet, Google, advertising, etc. are constantly changing and they have to keep moving.
They seem to be ditching various features (page bio, suggested articles, etc.) nowadays and gradually heading towards something less cluttered.

I thought this was interesting. In case anyone (including HP, apparently) is still unsure, check out No. 1 on this list:Helpful Content Recovery, per StudiesIn other words, you probably haven't lost traffic because your bio isn't thorough enough.

I've just noticed that PetHelpful, for instance, has a great layout on the front page which encourages readers to browse, whereas some of the other niche sites are positively pedestrian. Are they experimenting or what?

I really dislike the way my articles are displayed on niche sites - too much advertising interferes with the flow. All of my published articles are on these sites but I am seriously considering leaving anything that I submit in the future on Hubpages. Will this impact negatively on views and income?

As you are designing the floorplan for a master bedroom, do you prefer an asymmetric or symmetric floor plan, and why? I'm looking for some new and interesting ways to furnish a master suite. Thanks
