An ad on top of the video at the top of articles. Maybe it's just because I had a long introductory paragraph.
I think there are tiny ads at the beginning of mine.
I know poetry is different at times, but its right at the top before anything else.
There's probably a threshold number of lines of text before one appears. I'm going to experiment and use fewer lines to see what happens.
Would it be difficult to set up an alternative original website, with quality text capsules, monetise it with sensible ad placements and platform only top-notch articles a la HP?
I'm useless when it comes to techy things but Eugene have you a rough idea of what it would take to get a site up and running and able to compete on Google?
TAG's approach to layout and ads etc etc is driving me nuts.
I used to have a basic website with a few technical DIY articles, but that was over 10 years ago and it never did well. Maybe now, it would do better. I experimented with placing an article on my blog about building a shed and that was a large detailed diary/guide, but it got practically no traffic, maybe a couple of views per day. When I moved it to HP, it was getting around 40 views per day in 2021, but that's dropped to 20 now like all the other guides that have lost 50% to 90% of traffic. The problem is articles on HP will probably still rank higher because of the backlinks to the sites, whereas if we start out on our own, competing with them and ranking well would be difficult. I notice HP don't seem to promote our articles on their socials, and they're promoting all these rubbish news articles.

My traffic appeared to be clawing its way back a couple of weeks ago. Now, it has dropped again. Two big accounts with significant content on 5 niche sites. All down. My main account is down to 2016 levels. Who can fix this? Maybe me. Maybe HubPages. Maybe Google. There is nothing I can do...

A few weeks ago, I posted some thoughts on why traffic is falling for many writers and what we might do about it. One of the things I considered is that massive rewrites and fresh articles may be the ticket to clawing back on some of these traffic drops. Here is some more food for thought on that...

As you may remember, I copied and pasted an article to make a new duplicate article, then unpublished the original one. This was an experiment to see whether Google would consider it as completely "fresh" content as traffic for the original evergreen math tutorial had dropped slowly over...

Flipboard is a bit like Pinterest, as far as I can tell. I get traffic from it occasionally and am wondering about trying it.

Would this work or is ranking predominately determined by a network site's rating? Would it help get more traffic so that backlinks would potentially be more likely to be produced pointing to an article, then ads could be turned back on again later?

I have 8-10 articles that have got zero views over the last 30 days. They normally pick up some views, but this month I noticed they got none. Some are recent articles, others less so. Some have thousands of total views, but none in the last 30 days. So, I have decided to unpublish them for now...
