Why Hasn't "Content Continues Below" Been Replaced by "Advertisement"?

It has only changed on some network sites. "Advertisement" is less confusing to readers. I presume it's because of limited staff resources and other things that have to be done?

I agree with you, Eugene. I think you hit upon a serious problem that’s causing loss of views.

The single word "Advertisement" cannot be misconstrued, even if the following ad doesn’t load—as many don’t.

As an example, I recently sent a friend a link to a 3,600 word article of mine for him to read, and he said it was very short!

I was shocked, as later discussed with him what had happened—trying to figure out what went wrong.

It turned out he saw "Content Continues Below." And when he scrolled, he only saw white space. He thought he reached the end of my article and clicked away.

So, we have to wonder how often we lose readers due to that issue. It’s another exposed reason why HubPages is going downhill under TAGs failure to pay attention to SEO mishaps.

I have brought this up before, but nothing changed. It's as if when something needs to be changed, there's lots of red tape involved getting approval from TAG. Either that or the work has to be outsourced to be done and funding has to be sought to pay for it or perhaps it's technically difficult for some reason. I mean it's just changing a piece of text. I guess I'm missing a bit of the jigsaw puzzle here?

Yeah!  It seems TAG just doesn’t care about HubPages. Or, as you said, they might just have too much red tape. They never implemented Google’s code to support GA4 either. I mentioned how easy that is several times already with no action taken.

It took me just five minutes to install the code on my website that Google supplies to webmasters. It’s just basically plug and play. But TAG never assigned it to one of their programmers.

Sorry, I realize I’ve gone a little off topic here from your original title.

Glenn, you picked a good example to show how HP writers are losing views. I had been there. If I didn't have the patience to scroll down a little bit further, I would have left without completely reading some of the articles from our fellow writers due to this "content continues down" issue.

Thanks, Ven. That happens to me too. I actually do lose my patience when I try to read other Hubbers articles, but for another reason. I like to use my iPad for reading, but hubs often automatically reload from the beginning due to using too many resources. So I lose my place where I was reading. That’s frustrating, and I eventually give up.

That doesn’t happen on my desktop (my Mac), but I don’t do much reading there. I mainly use it for writing and other creative work. I prefer my iPad for reading. It’s unfortunate whatever TAG is doing with their server, that it uses too many resources an iPad can’t handle.

I wonder how many other people have run into that problem. It could be another reason for losing readers.

Glenn, It is frustrating when you know a simple solution, yet TAG/HP will not make the adjustments. Is it red tape or just the lack of willingness?

Kenna, I wish I had an answer to your question. All I can say is: Either red tape, or lack of willingness, both are poor excuses for TAG. What are your thoughts?

If there is willingness, then TAG will do something.
