I was updating a hub today, having found additional links to further history. I was in the process of inserting a links capsule for 'here is more info on the subject of this hub' purposes.
I know we are admonished from "posting links" in the forums; I take that to mean links promoting our own hubs, or for any promotional purpose.
However, in order to address my question, it is very necessary to post this pair of particular links:
1) http://sflib1.sfpl.org:82/search/dsutro … ndexsort=-
2) http://www.google.com/images?hl=en& … mp;bih=790
Neither of these will work within the links capsule. I must note that the forum posting utility has severely truncated both of the above: the first one is actually about 3 lines long, the second is 5 lines long. They both point to very specific pages within the site found via Google.
(And, incidentally, they also work fine from within this post, in spite of having been so shortened!!)
The first one comes up on the 'test link' function simply saying "bad link." (It is not! It is a fully clickable link, and works just fine when clicked upon from within the MS Word document in which I have it saved.)
The second one, upon trying the 'test link' function, simply does nothing...it just sits there, and returns nothing, not even a 'bad link' advisory. This link, also, is a valid link, and works when clicked upon from within my saved document.
What is going on here, and why can I not use these links?
Try copy/pasting the link into a regular text capsule. Then edit the text part to what you wish it to say.
Just an idea. No guarantees.

I've been working on creating outbound links for some of my hubs in my second week here at HP. I know the basics of SEO and I know why this is important. I thought it might be nice to share some tips for making the outbound links work for us. I don't think I personally have enough information here...

Is it possible to add a feature to links within text and to the photos to opt to have the link open in a new window? This would allow the reader to stay on the original page. Bounce rates rise every time someone leaves a page before reading the entire article, for whatever reason. If relevant links...

If this is not the correct place to ask my questions, please let me know where to go on HubPages, or if I should send an email to the people running HubPages.A few months ago an expert hubber with lots of experience and success for a time offered free critiques of hubs in one of the forums. I asked...

"John Mueller said that external links, links on your web site that point to outside web sites (or outbound links) are not a ranking signal. Just to be clear, links are a ranking factor - but you linking out to other sites doesn't help you rank better. He said the content you use for the link...

I know everyone is sick of this topic. But aren't we allowed ONE outbound link on a hub? I write about astrology, but put one link to a planetary table so the reader can go to that table and see what astrology sign THEIR planet is in.I do this with the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mercury. It was...

I was discussing outbound links with Ghost32 the other day.Lissie posted this comment in another thread:At the time, she said this seemed to be true, as sites where she had outbound links were getting good traffic - however, that didn't necessarily mean better earnings. Any update,...
